I finally got my color analysis done at SkinOwl, and it was a blast. 🤍

It was so fun learning which colors actually complement me best and why certain shades just seem to make everything look better.

And apparently… I’m a Light Spring! 🌸☀️

It’s a horrifying week, friends.

So here we go. This one is for our community of men. Fathers. Husbands. Brothers. Coaches. Teachers. Friends. Mentors. Men raising boys and men who simply have men in their lives. Men have enormous power to shape what other men tolerate, what boys learn, and what their sons grow up believing ‘being a man’ requires.

We want young men who stumble onto this post to see hundreds of men showing them what good men look like.

Tag the good men so they know we need their voice 💔

What does consent mean in your house? What are you teaching your sons about the girl at the party who is too intoxicated to consent? What do you expect them to do when a friend says something degrading about a woman in a group chat? What does being a good man require when another man is doing something wrong? Will they speak up even when it costs them social currency? Will they check on her? Will they challenge their friends?

And above all, will they understand that protecting a friend from the consequences of his behavior is not loyalty?

We know there are so many incredible men raising thoughtful, respectful boys and having these conversations already. We want those men louder right now.

Tell us what you’re teaching your sons. Tell us what you wish someone had taught you. Tell us what you believe men offer women and, just as importantly, what men offer each other.

Good men, we need you more than ever right now.

I’ve heard people call it “clean girl beauty.” Or more recently ‘French girl beauty.” To us, this is our signature ‘Makeunder.’ After five years of doing our signature Makeup Edits, we’ve learned that most women who say they “don’t like makeup” don’t actually dislike makeup. They don’t like feeling UNLIKE themselves in it. They want to know what to use, where to put it, what actually works for their skin, and how to make it fit into their real life. I’m gonna go ahead and take this visit personally 🥹

For the last month, I’ve been sitting with the idea of hosting my very first mastermind / retreat / intensive.

I’ve learned so much over the course of my career, and for a long time I’ve yearned for a place to put all of it. To share what I know. How my failures contributed to my purpose and direction. To get into the stuff underneath the stuff. To actually sit with people long enough to help something shift in their lives.

I’ve been lucky enough to speak to a lot of rooms over the years, usually for 45 minutes or an hour, and I always leave wishing I had more time. It has forever felt like we get right to the edge of something really good and then… the conference is over.

Last night I stayed up building out what it could look like to have more than that. Two days. Real conversations. Real reflection. Real time with my community to look at who we are, what we’ve built, and how to build a life around a business that asks so much of us.

I went to bed thinking about it and, admittedly, asking for a little sign that maybe I should actually do this.

And then today, this baby showed up outside my office window and stared directly in at me.

So.

We’ve got a classroom in our new storefront and we’re fantasizing about all the ways we can use it. I’ve been doing so many makeup appointments and I’m noticing a trend: our clients stick with the same makeup look for years bc they were never taught about their face shape or color story to begin with. How can we evolve our makeup taste if we don’t know our proprietary x-factors?

For example, blush placement on a round face (think Michelle Williams) vs. a diamond face (think Rihanna) vs. a heart shaped face (think Reese Witherspoon). Why does it matter? Because I’ve seen women light UP when they see how one small change can change the way they feel about themselves. Thats the business we’re in.

Life is too short for all of the self criticism.

My mentor said to me recently, “Annie, you live your life in minutes. You require every minute you’ve been given to do what you do professionally. The amount you can get done in seven minutes is probably why you don’t like people showing up early.”

And my jaw hit the floooooor. I can’t tell you how much that one observation changed the way I think about time and how I manage it.

In seven minutes, I can pee, eat a few bites of my salad, put on some makeup, reset the room and get myself into the headspace I need to be in for whatever is happening next.

So if our appointment is at 9:00, I’m showing up at 9:00. Not 8:45. Not 8:53. Those seven minutes in the car (even if I’ve arrived early to my destination) not only allows me to send off an email but assume that you might need those 7 minutes too. My efficiency has relied on these minutes for years and I often think I wouldn’t be able to balance how I want to show up in life without those final minutes.

Anyone else feel this on a cellular level too? (And to be so for real, I’m more likely to show up 3 mins late bc the email I sent in the car with the time I had left got stuck in my outbox and it took 3 mins to resolve so….) by @skinowl
