Huge thanks to our ambassadors for leading the way, the laughs, and the gels you ‘borrowed.´ And to everyone who joined us on these adventures, you made this summer one to remember. by @skiuphill.ca

“A hunter who screams before releasing their bow returns home hungry.” - Marcus Aurelius

“There is a reason the arrow is silent, before it strikes.

The hunter does not announce what they intend to kill.

They draw.
They aim.
They release.

The results make the noise for them.

There is a subtle pleasure in telling people what you’re going to become.

The business that you’ll build.
The body that you’ll earn.
The life you’ll change.

For a moment, their admiration allows you to feel like the future version of yourself, without paying the price required to become them.

That is the trap.

Marcus distrusted anything that rewarded appearance before character.

Because the soul can become satisfied with the reputation of virtue, instead of virtue itself.

Talking about discipline, can feel like discipline.
Announcing courage, can feel like courage.
Planning the battle, can feel like victory.

None of them are the thing itself. This is where the Stoic discipline of action becomes severe.

Your intentions possess almost no moral weight until they become conduct.

You are not patient because you value patience, you are patient when provoked.

You are not disciplined because you admire discipline, you are disciplined when comfort makes it’s offer and you refuse it.

And perhaps this explains why some ambitions die immediately after being announced.

The ego has already eaten, it received attention, recognition, encouragement.

The appetite that should have driven action, was partially satisfied by mere words.

You celebrated the hunt, before drawing the bow.

There is power in allowing your life to become quieter, while your character becomes louder.

No announcement.
No need to convince.
No performance of becoming.

Just months of invisible work, until reality itself makes the argument for you.

The ancient standard was simple;

Be the thing.

Do not explain your courage.
Act courageously.

Do not advertise your discipline.
Become disciplined.

Do not tell the world where the arrow is going.
Draw the string, hold your aim and let the target discover your intention last.”

Whether you’re shopping for a new pair or trying to make your current boots feel better, our bootfitters can help. We’ll look at your feet, the way you stand and how you ski, then sort out what works for you. That could be custom footbeds, heat-moulded or Intuition liners, shell work, or finding the right new boot from the start.
Book your fitting now, before it gets super busy, so we have time to get it right. Link in bio to book. by @skiuphill.ca

We like watches that do the important stuff well and skip the faff. Suunto gets that balance right. A big, bright screen that’s easy to read in the sun, and battery that still keeps up on the big missions. Offline maps come free and are easy to follow at a glance. We think it sits quite nicely with our current offering!

Also, the Vertical 2 has a flashlight. We’re more excited about that than we probably should be.

Blue bird skies, golden larches, and legs that earned every step.

Last weekend’s long run at Ribbon Falls and Galatea had it all: good friends, fall colours at their peak, a few rung ladders to keep things interesting, and waterfalls around every other corner. Honestly, what’s better than that? We have one last group long run on October 3rd. Stay tuned for more details and link in bio. taken in Galatea Lakes Trail by @skiuphill.ca

While it was raining back in Canmore, our crews lucked out with blue skies and some early fall vibes in Yoho this past weekend.

Different paces, different groups, all out sharing a big day on the Emerald Triangle. Pretty hard to beat running through the mountains with great people.

Just two group Saturday long runs left this season: Sept 19th and Oct 3rd. Thanks to everyone who’s joined us out there this summer, now we just need to catch the larches showing off before it’s over.

Sharing my love of mountain running AND getting to do it alongside the incredibly talented and hard-working @emcookclarke has been a highlight of my summer.

We're offering another mountain running clinic this fall, designed for intermediate runners who are looking to improve their skills, efficiency, and enjoyment in mountain terrain. And it just so happens to coincide with the beginning of larch season!

We'll cover how to organize your pack and save on weight, planning routes and navigating with efficiency in mind, uphill and downhill movement, adapting to terrain and change, and more.

September 19, 9 AM-4 PM, Kananaskis (exact location TBD). Our last two clinics sold out in less than a day, so don't wait to sign up! DM to register or click the link in bio by @skiuphill.ca
