I dug this up from last fall’s trip to Patagonia to remind myself of the systems and gear I was using. Figured if it was useful to me, it might be useful to a few of you too, especially with the northern hemisphere ski season fast approaching!

This also feels like a good moment to mention that @logweeze and I are headed back to Aysén, Patagonia… right now!

But more on that later.

After solo summiting and skiing Arras a few days prior, I was naturally drawn back to its unique aesthetics and probability of good conditions. This time I really wanted to share the summit and experience with friends. Buttons and I had spent many man hours putting in a road and we were hoping that it was still good for use for our next attempt to ski this beautiful mountain.

We didn’t really have any beta on this face and we were putting a lot of faith in @logweeze recent but quick scope of the line from the summit and an old summer photo from a book of Davy Jones.

We rallied the crew and the sleds up the long ice road to our camp. @tsul123 @buttonian @scotty_p_haggis and @logweeze were excited to try and make, from what we’ve been told, is the first descent of the East Face of Arras.

To get to the east face we needed to sled in waaay too many kilometers to start skinning up to a Col located on the north aspect. A top the Col we were greeted to a short but steep spine line to get to the east basin.

After the short but sweet descent and we hurried to the base of the main couloir which would provide our access to the summit.

At the base of the couloir we were treated with a large trail of debris. The couloir had slid recently which made for easier booting up this beautiful rock walled corridor.

Luckily, for the descent the top of the couloir was good snow and there was a sneaky side couloir that provided a route without any avalanche debris in it.

We gained the shoulder and made the summit push through excellent conditions. @scotty_p_haggis started the steep bootpack up the ridge spine and soon we were taking our final steps onto the summit.

“I’m not crying… I’m healing!”

An emotional moment for the boys for many reasons. Partners lost, failures endured, friendships nourished… accomplishments seem so trivial and we hold@on to the moment as long as possible.

Required summit band photo… not into selfies but I swear I was there looking weird too!

@buttonian drops in on the upper spine and regroups at the with the crew.

I dropped this next section first and uncovered some thin spots covering the glacial ice. I yelled up to let the guys know. They decided
