Shoulder to shoulder, Tender Brother Limo shows a close portrait of American masculinity and male relationships largely made during the experience of bachelor parties in the lyrical documentary photographic tradition. Among the debauchery of men participating in bachelor parties - a-rite-of-passage celebrating a man’s journey to marriage - there is intimacy, sensuality and an examination of the male bond. The photographs span a 14-year period beginning in 2005 during first hand experiences on 35mm black-and-white film often with disposable or point and shoot cameras. It’s a mirror to reflect on the dynamics of male teachings, relationships and growth. What do those traditional male narratives mean? What does it mean to be a good man today? by @sklartopia

Ready to take your portrait work to the next level? Join photographer Ben Sklar for a full day exploring what makes a portrait truly come alive, from controlled studio lighting to spontaneous, available-light moments out in the world.

Through lecture, a hands-on studio session, and an outdoor walking segment, you'll dig into how light, composition, gesture, and environment work together to reveal character and narrative in your images. Guided exercises, critiques, and demos will help you develop your own photographic voice and walk away with portraits that genuinely connect.

About Ben: NYC-based photographer Ben Sklar's documentary work centers on community and human connection. He's been a New York Times contributor, studied under Magnum photographer Eli Reed, and was Pulitzer-nominated for his coverage of Hurricane Katrina. His work lives in the collections of the Harry Ransom Center, the Ogden Museum, the Fotohof Museum, and the Newseum.

I gave a guest lecture at The University of California Berkeley about street photography for a comparative lit class, ‘Boroughs to Barrios’, and took some digital natives on a deep dive into photography’s history and development of expression in relation the spectacle of public. Now I’m fielding dozens of student questions about the medium, where it was, and where it’s going that are makin me think, i love thinking.
