We can’t wait for @printedmatter_artbookfairs this week! To showcase the work of our expansive artist community, we are excited to present a special Book-a-thon!

What is it and how does it work? Each hour, a CBA artist member or 2026 Artist in Resident will have space on CBA’s table to present their work. You’ll find many books made in CBA’s studios, works that exemplify the book as an art object, and artists who bring a diversity of perspectives, topics, and forms.

NYABF takes place from Sept 24 - 27, 2026, and the CBA Book-a-thon will be from Fri - Sun. Come find us and meet the Artist of the hour at Booth J1!

A couple of the images from New York at ICP. Ignore the inconsistent tonality and odd quality of most of the images the scanning setup is picky.

Big thanks to everyone I met at ICP who had a chat, a beer, or bummed me a smoke.

major shout out to @sierragreenslade and @jordan_nicole_funk for picking me up after being marooned in DFW and having to drive back to Lubbock.

Excited to be back home in chicago in a couple weeks and work on my thesis and then begin developing things on the back end. Handmade book, silver prints, exhibition design, paper etc.

color images are from Daylight booth, and @sklartopia opening in NYC

Announcing a New Workshop: Studio & Environmental Portraiture with Ben Sklar

📅 Saturday, August 22nd | 10am–5pm

Ready to take your portrait work to the next level? Join photographer Ben Sklar for a full day exploring what makes a portrait truly come alive, from controlled studio lighting to spontaneous, available-light moments out in the world.

Through lecture, a hands-on studio session, and an outdoor walking segment, you'll dig into how light, composition, gesture, and environment work together to reveal character and narrative in your images. Guided exercises, critiques, and demos will help you develop your own photographic voice and walk away with portraits that genuinely connect.

About Ben: NYC-based photographer Ben Sklar's documentary work centers on community and human connection. He's been a New York Times contributor, studied under Magnum photographer Eli Reed, and was Pulitzer-nominated for his coverage of Hurricane Katrina. His work lives in the collections of the Harry Ransom Center, the Ogden Museum, the Fotohof Museum, and the Newseum.

💵 $330 non-members | $300 members

Through passing scenes and everyday gestures, Ben Sklar documents the subtle rhythms of human movement. His work focuses on in-between moments, drawing attention to the small details that define human experience.

Ben Sklar (b. 1983, Baton Rouge, Louisiana) is a fourth generation artist whose photographic practice blends documentary instinct with poetic narrative. Rooted in early experiences in Texas and shaped by a career that spans The New York Times, Pulitzer recognition, and mentorship under Magnum photographer Eli Reed, Sklar’s work explores human experience through film, darkroom processes, and evolving mixed media. His imagery reflects a life lived attentively, capturing fleeting moments of intimacy, identity, and place across landscapes both personal and universal.
