Thank you to @ruthlaferla and the @nytimes for finding merit in my personal journey, in the work that @thenikle and my team at @icnclst have forged together, and in the creativity expressed by our family of artists and brands.

A NY Times feature—in the Arts section, and in the Sunday Times—is something somewhat incomprehensible to me. I’m honestly at a loss for words with how appreciative I am, and what this means...

Thank you to Futura, Lupe Fiasco, DJ Neil Armstrong, and 13thWitness for starting this journey with Nikle and I—when it was all but a “big idea” several years ago…

I wish my father could be here for this moment… 🕊️

“You can do it too” - Virgil Abloh 🕊️ // we’re keeping the dream alive, V. We’re gonna make sure people continue to know what “all of this”—represents!

“The Professor X” era begins… Super proud to share that I am now officially an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP).

Elated to get in the classroom, starting this summer, and pay so many lessons forward that I’ve learned while making my way in NYC.

Thank you to my superhero friend Karen Wong for breaking barriers and bringing me into this amazing faculty cohort. Much respect to my brother @lupefiasco for inspiring and encouraging me to begin this new journey.

Roberto Baggio… As a 13-year-old, I was able to see Roberto play twice during the 1994 World Cup: ultimate skill, poise, focus, and fight. For a generation of American soccer players after the 1994 World Cup, he remained our maestro…

I gained a tremendous amount of respect for Roberto in how he navigated victory and adversity throughout his life; his spiritual practice serving as a guiding force, and his dedication to sport and family inspired me tremendously.

Over the last two years, the universe conspired and somehow allowed me to become friends with Roberto and his daughter Valentina. And then last week, I found myself being able to make Roberto a jersey to gift to a lucky few for his Rizzoli book launch—a friends and family production by @icnclst x @yy__exchange, and @nikenyc.

I’ve learned a lot from Roberto, and people like him. Those who perhaps navigate life by/with the adage “things happen for you, not to you.”

Thank you to Valentina and the Baggio family for making this World Cup summer very special. I’ll end with this…

“Why doesn’t constant trampling defeat the dandelion? The key to its strength is its long and sturdy root, which extends deep into the earth. The same principle applies to people. The true victors in life are those who, enduring repeated challenges and setbacks, have sent the roots of their being to such a depth that nothing can shake them.”

@skygellatly is a cultural strategist and co-founder of @icnclst, the creative agency and talent representation firm known for bridging contemporary art and global brands through exhibitions, collaborations, and strategic consultancy. As CEO, he has led landmark partnerships connecting artists and institutions such as @Futuradosmil, @themuseumofmodernart, @NinaChanel, and @summaeverythang with brands including @Nike, @theMarcJacobs, @CommedesGarcons, and @Google.

Previously at Complex, MTV, and Details, Gellatly sharpened his instinct for culturally resonant storytelling. In 2023, ICNCLST launched @Control.Gallery in Los Angeles with @BeyondTheStreetsArt, championing artist-led practice, and in 2024 he joined Columbia University’s GSAPP as an Adjunct Professor.

Today, Gellatly sits down with hube’s Editor-in-Chief, @AleksKovaleva, to discuss his experience navigating the ever-changing media landscape and his deliberate interplay between creativity, business, and cultural strategy—offering a compelling model for how independent artists and companies can inform and elevate one another.

Virgil Abloh is still with us. The power, intention, optimism, and empathy that came from his soul is still here—refracting, echoing, smiling, and manifesting itself in many glimmering forms. His dedicated practice of always uplifting the next generation, while simultaneously, and in some mercurial way, celebrating the previous, is one of the most-magical balancing acts that the world has ever seen. Today, we still wade in the wake of his gestural waves, one such current being this very project that shares love and admiration for several of our artistic superheroes: Lady Pink, Lee Quinones, and Rammellzee.

In 2021, when Virgil asked me to curate “White Canvas” with him, I was humbled. That he’d want me to function as a “curator” for something with him—especially for a project with Louis Vuitton—was somewhat unreal. “But Virgil is already the ultimate curator” I thought “why would he need me?" But of course, in typical Virgil fashion, V made me feel seen, accredited, and encouraged—and away we went.

I am so proud that this exhibition is able to come to life in 2023 because it serves as a mirror into Virgil’s heart, where his admiration for artists like Lady Pink, Rammellzee, Lee Quinones and the entire school of Graffiti lived.

Virgil and I were friends, thanks to Lupe Fiasco, for roughly fifteen years. Over that flight of time, in between DJ sets, laughs, and text messages, we discussed how Dondi White and Futura 2000 were “Picasso-level” to him. How the book Subway Art changed his life. How JEST authored codex for the now. How HAZE’s hand styles wowed us to no end. Virgil’s ascension into the capital “A” art world in recent years always brought the genre of Graffiti with him: the worldview of disruption, adaptation, courage, and hiding in plain sight—with style. This project serves as an additional salutation from my generation’s kindest of kings.

MoMA x Nike: we did it! Working to forge this partnership over the last two years between MoMA and Nike has been one of the most important, and most fun, of my career.

Teamwork truly makes the dream work 😁

So many thoughtful creative sessions with the marketing, licensing, and retail teams at both MoMA and Nike—as well as deft curatorial purview from Paola Antonelli and her team at MoMA.

Thank you and congrats to Robin Sayetta and the amazing team at The Museum of Modern Art for the trust and conviction in this project, and to Nicholas Schonberger for the dedication and vision in seeing it all the way through for Nike.

Much more to come from this fantastic partnership in the future…😉

A dream-to-reality project; we at ICNCLST/ are very proud.

*lastly, I know that my Dad would have very been very proud of and loved this collaboration—as he was a big supporter of both the MoMA and “fun sock” style moments (especially purple socks…with shorts). by @skygellatly

Fun fact: truth be told, a little over 6 years ago I remember sitting at a Starbucks on South Beach with Nikle staring out a window, thinking to myself: “we’re at Art Basel. Great. So…now what do we do?” It was kind of terrifying. It was also a challenge we wanted. Okay, maybe more unnerving than not. But now we’re here.

Thank you to the team at WWD for generously sharing the story of making ICNCLST this week (link in bio). It feels great for our team to get this moment of recognition in the sun during Art Basel…when it feels like we’re truly beginning to make our mark in this space: installations, panels, events, collaborations, and high fives.

I find fulfillment and comfort in helping others tell their story—more than my own. I love helping people get their visions out there, and with some method and reason, connect artists, brands, and scenes. I owe everything to my team, to our artist community, and to our varied cohort of brand partners who have put their faith in us.

Congratulations to our team, and thank you to @ginananni and @companyagenda for securing this awesome feature 🙏 by @skygellatly

I’m proud to announce that I’ve been selected to join the Board of Directors for Free Arts NYC (@freeartsnyc).

Over the last 5 years it’s been wonderful to work with Liz Hopfan, CEO of Free Arts NYC, and her team on a variety of programming and development initiatives for their platform.

Free Arts NYCs mission is to empower youth from underserved communities—through art and mentoring programs to develop their creativity, confidence, and skills to succeed.

2023 marks 25 years for Free Arts NYC. I’m excited to help co-develop what’s in store with such an amazing cohort of thinkers and doers—all working together to better the lives of the next generation. by @skygellatly
