Happy Friday sky watchers! Join us LIVE this morning as we delve into the stereoscopic world of binoviewers and what they can do for your next observing or outreach session - and which one is right for you.

We just had an amazing experience at Ontario Starfest paring a binoviewer with the Heliostar 100 and it was INCREDIBLE!! Highly recommended.

Meet the Question Mark Nebula, a massive star-forming region roughly 3,000 light-years away in the constellation Cepheus.
Two nights of collecting light from my backyard went into creating this image—and after a little break from deep-sky imaging, it feels good to be pointing the telescope back into space. 🔭

NGC 2237 - ROSETTE NEBULA

This is another reprocess of one of my favourite nebulae, the Rosette! I captured this early in the year with only a couple hours of data due to a lot of unexpected cloud cover, however the detail and colour in this short integration is nothing short of amazing! I think this is definitely my favourite process of the nebula so far and I am really excited to get some more data this year and boost some of the signal in fainter regions. I reprocessed this LIVE on my TikTok page @astronayyar ! Some new upgrades have come to my scope this year and I'm looking forward to showing them to you all!

IC 5146 is an emission and reflection nebula, also known as the Cocoon Nebula or Sharpless 125. It is located in the constellation Cygnus, approximately 3,300 light-years from Earth. The nebula lies at the very end of the dark nebula Barnard 168, which was discovered by Edward Barnard on a photograph.

The Cocoon Nebula is about 20 light-years across and is surrounded by the young open star cluster Collinder 470. Radiation from the stars in this cluster ionizes the surrounding gas, causing it to glow. At the heart of the nebula is a young B0-type star that illuminates the surrounding material and formed roughly 100,000 years ago. The age of the cluster itself is estimated to be several hundred thousand years.

IC 5146 is a stellar nursery where new stars are actively forming. Young stars can be found both within the bright emission nebula and inside the dark molecular cloud visible in infrared wavelengths, which forms the long tail extending behind the nebula. The most massive star in this region is BD +46 3474, a B-type star with an estimated mass of around 14 times that of the Sun.

I have spent 51 hours photographing this part of the night sky which makes it my longest project ever.

Let me know in the comments if you like it :)

Clear skies!

Happy Friday sky watchers!! We are LIVE this morning 10AM Pacific

Alvan Clark & Sons produced some of the finest optical instruments of the 19th and early 20th century. While their largest instruments can be found at major observatories their smaller telescopes are highly sought after. Join us as we take a close look at restoring a complete 1885 4" Clark refractor and learn the story behind this historic telescope.

The Helix Nebula — also known as the “Eye of God.” But for fans of Middle-earth, its appearance looks much more like Tolkien’s “Eye of Sauron”, watching over the cosmos. 👁️🌌

But beyond the mythology...

This is a Planetary Nebula — and the name is misleading: it has absolutely nothing to do with planets.

The Helix offers a possible glimpse into the future of our own Sun. After billions of years, a star with a mass similar to the Sun’s becomes a red giant and sheds its outer layers.

At its center remains a white dwarf, whose intense ultraviolet radiation causes the surrounding gas to glow, creating this extraordinary cosmic structure.

A dying star — and, paradoxically, creating one of the Universe’s most beautiful landscapes. ✨

Messier 78 — a nebula within a nebula. 👻😶‍🌫️

At first glance, M78 is a beautiful blue reflection nebula - starlight from young, hot stars scattered through the surrounding dust, giving it that unmistakable icy glow.

But add Ha data, and the scene changes completely.

The image reveals something almost invisible in the LRGB: a vast, delicate veil of ionized hydrogen stretching across and around M78. This faint red emission is part of the enormous Barnard’s Loop, the giant arc of glowing gas that sweeps through the Orion Molecular Cloud complex.

So what looks like a simple blue reflection nebula is actually sitting against a much larger cosmic structure - cold molecular clouds, reflected starlight, dark dust, and glowing hydrogen all occupying the same patch of sky.

And this is exactly why I love narrowband data: sometimes the universe has been hiding an entire second landscape in plain sight…

Thanks to PixInsight Inwas finally able to really blend in the 18 hours of Ha data that I had lying around. This is the „correct“ version where I used Continuum subtratcion. I was also able to pull out much more detail from the Luminance channel and even though it’s a relatively short LRGB total integration time, you can really see both the nebula and the surrounding faint dust.

How do you like this reprocess of my first ever Astro image taken with a Monochrome camera? And which version is your favourite?
