by @slackoff_project

by @slackoff_project

In its wake
Mezzotint by @_qinlinyang_

by @slackoff_project

Soft Boundaries —
The visually imprecise boundary, when confronted with the expansion and contraction of the city, emerges instead as an operable condition. What appears before us is not a finished image of urban transformation, but the demolition of a building damaged by sea-sand concrete.

The building’s once rigid, man-made edges are softened again as the city enters a moment of contraction, wrapped in sheets of canvas that render the structure almost disarmed. Slackened and loosened, these boundaries respond to the wind, resonating with it in a state of suspension. by @slackoff_project

It’s all about weather

—

Because of Humidity and Heat—

My experience of living in Taiwan, my hometown, has never been easy to describe as clear-cut. More precisely, it is sticky, humid, and unresolved. Even under intense sunlight, contrast never feels truly sharp. Everything spread beneath the sun seems to be articulated through overexposure.

Compared with the crisp boundaries and high contrast of Los Angeles—where stepping from sunlight into the shade beside a running track produces an immediate and distinct difference—the boundaries of experience in Taiwan feel blurred, dispersed, and difficult to separate. I believe this kind of bodily perception also quietly shapes the way one understands things.

Blurred. Sticky. Evenly diffused. Fragmented. by @slackoff_project

—

A Weightless Gaze—

The ambiguity and fragmentation of experience give rise, in the formation of everyday perception, to an awkward sense of weightlessness without a clear direction. As a result, any attempt to gauge the boundary is invariably grounded in hesitation, which in turn becomes another way of tracing its contours. by @slackoff_project

Mezzotint

A “damaged” copper plate. A ghost print.

This is a mezzotint print I came across by accident during my residency @eastlondonprintmakers in 2025.

December 11, 2022, London. Snow.

I encountered a fox joyfully leaping across the snow.

Perhaps I wanted to step away from a vessel burdened by scarcity;
otherwise, why would I have crossed the bridge toward the unknown?

And yet, amid the haze, the few things that remain clearly recognizable
are precisely those former numbnesses and pale shades of life. by @slackoff_project

_______

On the bridge, there is no scenery; and people have no faces.
In a mechanical repetition, shadows are cast upon a landscape that does not exist,
only to begin once more an endless cycle of return and departure— by @slackoff_project
