It’s been a long time... but we have a new 𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐧 album coming on October 9th. 💫
On ‘𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘜𝘱!’ the long awaited second album from 𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐧, we draw deeper into the intimate sonic world of Canadian musician Sydney Koke. This time, her sensual minimalism and disjointed abstraction is even more striking as she addresses one of the most fundamental quandaries of electronic music - that of the human agent and its presence in the synthetic world of the machine. Her strange rhythms have a corporeal and seductive quality, boldly queer and experimental in their denial of quantitative logic in favour of something more tactile and intuitive in their psychedelia. Another cut ‘𝘐𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘢 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮’ from the upcoming 𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐧 record ‘𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘜𝘱!’ is now out.
The closing track is a meditative seductive piece, one that completely runs on its own time.
On ‘𝘐𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘢 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮’, @slaylor_moon (Sydney Koke) uses dj equipment to create and manipulate loops of previously recorded material, in this case tracks from her forthcoming album “songs for meditation”. The track was recorded live, with slow filter sweeps performed manually in real time, creating a meditative and dream-like composition. The title refers to a long ago visit to ischia, an island off the coast of Naples. by @slaylor_moon

Sydney Koke (aka Slaylor Moon) is also in a band called Tristwch Y Fenywod—I listened to their album so much last year, so I’m stoked to have her! Her solo work is incredibly cool too.

Slaylor Moon (Canada/France)

A former neuroscientist turned artist and musician, Sydney Koke (Calgary, Canada) is currently based in Paris, France. As a founding member of goth band Tristwch Y Fenywod and experimental improv collective Two Form a Click, she previously performed in experimental punk band Shearing Pinx and grunge band The Courtneys (Flying Nun, Waterslide Records, etc). In her experimental electronic project Slaylor Moon, she creates improvised compositions via intuitive abstraction of DIY samples and loops using DJ software and manipulated vocals. Her influences include musique concrete, experimental electronic music, old school rave, 70s industrial, noise rock, queer punk, and above all, no wave. For fans of Excepter, Sightings, Ruth White, Cabaret Voltaire, Drainolith, AWOTT, etc.

ry cooder twangs start to melt, warp, bend and fall apart into a pile of dead bones for the vultures to chew on as the narrative changes turns like a tumbleweed and landscape morphs into unfamiliar dream/nightmare terrain.

No water. No hope. No growth.
