Join @maineimmigrantrights and @meclimateaction next Thursday (Sept. 10) for "Warming Welcome: Stories of Climate Migration and Growing Solidarity in Maine", a virtual gathering to hear New Mainers' stories and learn about opportunities for acts of solidarity between climate and immigrant movements in Maine.

This event is part of Welcoming Week, an annual campaign and celebration of communities striving to be more welcoming places for all. More people than ever are on the move, displaced by climate and conflict and seeking opportunity and mobility. As climate migration reshapes communities, many places are unprepared and underinvested in the work needed to create welcoming infrastructure, and they’re unsure of where to start. Welcoming Week invites communities to take the first step toward creating an environment where everyone can truly thrive. In many ways, the initiative is an opportunity for communities to cultivate the awareness and energy that’s needed to sustain year-long welcoming efforts.

It's 2026. We have the technology to power Boston's hospitals without poisoning the neighborhoods around them.

MATEP, a dirty energy plant in the heart of the Longwood Medical Area, pumps hundreds of tons of pollution a year into Mission Hill, Roxbury, and Jamaica Plain. Some of its oldest, dirtiest turbines only fire up on peak demand days. Those are exactly the ones we can replace with cleaner technologies, right now.

Alongside the Massachusetts Clean Peak Coalition, local organizations, and neighbors, we're organizing to change that.

After neighbors won a one year data center moratorium in Lowell, leaders with Honest Future for Lowell showed up big last week. They turned out to the city’s public hearing on new zoning regulations for data centers. The Butler School auditorium was packed with neighbors who are determined to stop the expansion of the Markley Group, which owns one of the largest data centers in Massachusetts. The company has tried to install more diesel generators and fuel storage tanks that threaten neighbors’ health. When neighbors organize together, decision-makers have to listen. The city is now planning more public hearings to make sure everyone’s input can be taken into account for strong data center zoning. This is what community power looks like.

Behind every campaign victory are Slingshot organizers working side by side with local leaders. Now we're hiring two more — a community organizer in Connecticut and one in New Hampshire & Maine — to deepen that work across the Northeast. These are the folks who show up in living rooms, church basements, on Zoom, in hearing rooms alongside communities. They build relationships with community groups, coach local leaders, and help grassroots campaigns take aim at polluters and win.

The EPA just announced the rollback of the first national drinking water standards for PFAS chemicals, protections that would have helped 100 million Americans. Leaders with the National PFAS Contamination Coalition condemned the decision. Communities suffering from PFAS contamination won't stop fighting until every American has safe drinking water and PFAS polluters are held accountable.
