Hi! I’m Jozette, and here’s my story in a nutshell! I grew up in a place where creativity wasn’t valued beyond mere “play.” Pursuing art was not considered a viable career choice. Even now, despite a decade of successful self-employment, I’m not sure my parents see it as a “real job” since I created it myself. Can anyone relate?

Despite this upbringing, I always felt the artist within me craving expression. The art room at school was my refuge, where I felt truly understood. Initially hesitant, I pursued psychology in college before switching my major to art. My BFA degree was costly, and I still pay for it, yet my vision of creating “functional” art faced skepticism. I wanted to craft art that people could use or wear, forming a personal connection with each piece.

Fashion found me unexpectedly, as my practice of hooping and fire dancing led me to design my own costumes. Through exploring slit weave techniques on natural fabrics, I caught people’s attention. After years of attempting to sell hand-blown glass items, and jewelry without success, my fashion journey officially began in 2013. Within a couple of years, I transitioned to full-time sewing and left my job behind. I’m completely self taught and still learning!

My journey has been filled with ups and downs. I started small, from my dining table to a small room, then a dream studio in my home, only to lose it all. I restarted, rebuilt, and persevered, even working from a friend’s dining table at one point. Now, I just started renting a studio outside my home to grow my business. It has been exhausting and challenging, but I keep pushing forward. Though progress may seem slow daily, looking back, I realize it’s all part of the journey. I’m immensely grateful for those who wear my art and bring it to life. Thank you! I love doing live cuts at festivals, it just hit different when I get to bring a piece to life and customize it to the customers curves on the spot! It’s such a fun interactive element to my work that is quite rare! I enjoyed doing a few live cuts at @fahrenheitflowarts festival in September. This was the first one! It was also this persons first time to a flow arts festival, and I got to make her first slit weave piece on the spot! Grateful ❤️‍🔥

Ever wonder what the process looks like to take ordinary fabric and turn it into large scale festival decorations? 👀

Take a peek into our journey of creating and collaborating at @domefestofficial in WV this August!

These kinds of projects take a lot of time, planning, and energy - but it’s all so worth it to watch it come to life!

Witnessing people enjoy the spaces we help create is really one of my favorite ways to share art! It’s immersive and helps them escape the mundane and feel like they’ve been transported to another dimension thats a bit more magickal - and where anything’s possible!

The bands that graced the stages we decorated were amazing, and it was so fun to watch the full spectacle and vibes we all created together!

Always grateful for these opportunities and the amazing friends we make along the way - can’t wait for more!

Next up - we’re heading back to WV for @fahrenheitflowarts Festival ❤️‍🔥

This is one of my most unique design concepts. I’ve been creating reversible items including these sleeves, tube tops, leggings and more for many years!

They can be time intensive and challenging to get smooth. I have thinned out my inventory and offerings nowadays, only offering the sleeves, and only in my Etsy shop at the moment, but they are available in multiple color combos!

I really am proud of these creations 😍 what do you think? 💜

It took 3 days to put up and about 3 hours to take down 😅😆 we had an incredible time contributing our stretch fabric deco installations to the vibes at @domefestofficial this year!

We had never been before and never seen Pigeons Playing Ping Pong live …and I can say now that we have officially joined the flock 🤩

What a joy it was to collaborate with so many talented artists and put our unique touch on the deco. That was the biggest stage we have rigged on yet and the first time we got to use a lift instead of ladders. We navigated all of the obstacles one by one, and even though everything wasn’t perfect - we were happy with the outcome!

Deco is always a puzzle to be completed on site, no matter how much planning you do, there’s a ton of variables to deal with when actually navigating the installation process. We love the challenge, and the fact that our work is done before the festival begins! 🤗

One highlight was working on the stage deco during Pigeons sound check and they played my favorite song! What a view 🤩 and I must say finishing up the stage fabric late night while they were treating the lights was craaazy 😆
