can't think of a better way to celebrate the sky being clear and the air being fresh than a long run with @bee.rook at cape henlopen, a mid-run fridge cig (with a bonus good luck getting shat on by a seagull), a post-run dip in the ocean, and coincidentally getting icecream from the cutest truck i've ever seen on #nationalicecreamday also got to try @thekettleblackphilly for the first time, sans slog, and i can now confirm they are 100% as good as they look, they ROCK at vegan baked goods (i'm not vegan but i can't fathom the skill it takes to make a vegan baked good successfully), and their bagels are the fluffiest in all the land ✨️#girlswhorun #seenonmyrun #bakedgoods #sweettooth by @sloggingtosweets

slogged to @bakewithmiii's pop-up at @psqsshop and strictly devoured sweets (and spam focaccia) for lunch, witnessed a kids tri sprint and an amazing mum in action, and trudged through morning humidity on the @phillymayorscup trail 10k course. weekend, spent just the way i like it ✨️everything in mi's pop-up spread today was of note and perfect for a hot summer day, but the bing fan (middle of pic) and lychee oolong douyin tiramisu (bottom of pic) were my favoritebing fan, or "ice rice," originated in china as a regional sweet treat to beat the heat. it's rice soaked in a sweet sugar water with crushed ice, and topped with chopped fresh fruit, raisins, beans, and jellies, AND in this case, peanuts! it was refreshing, and texture city, and i now want a bowl of this every hot day for the rest of my summers, but i'm honestly not sure there are many places in the city you can get it—let a gal know otherwisemy favorite dessert of all time is tiramisu and i'm someone who's okay with a spin being put on the traditional flavor, especially if it's like this. imagine putting your fork through a layer of gelatin, a layer of cream, a layer of cake soaked in oolong tea, biting down, and realizing there are also chunks of lychee in between! this was so floral and bright and my taste buds were doing a lil dance #girlswhorun #sloggingtosweets #sweettreats #seenonmyrun #supportyourlocalbaker by @sloggingtosweets

a moment for @bakebakephilly's neapolitan cheesecake and the rainy picturesque old city walk to acquire it from @riverwardsproduce cheesecake is a nostalgic dessert for me because i feel like i spent so much of my childhood going to family parties, and cheesecake was always a staple—at times, someone homemaking it, but a lot of the time, someone snagging one of those storebought cheesecakes with a variety of slices in different flavors. i think cheesecake from local bakers and bakeries excites me so much because it levels up something i've only really had in it's most basic and mass-produced form with something personal from that baker. this specific neapolitan flavor turns it allllll the way up. this had a lighter and creamier texture than what most know a classic, denser cheesecake to be (imo). the line between eating a cheesecake or the actual icecream was so close to being blurred because of how spot on the flavors were. we can't forget the unsung hero who both holds and brings it all together—the crust—and that, she did. IT'S ALSO PRETTY ✨️ by @sloggingtosweets

ever wanted to run a 200+ miler? me either, but i want to hear from friends who do, as someone who's interested in the psychology of it all and who would definitely pace or crew someone who wanted to take on such a feat.@womeninultrarunning held a 60 min run + 200+ miler discussion from our fearless (and only getting more fearless) founder, @rachel_lynn07, in the soupy wiss this morning. it's inspiring to have someone who lives her values and is entrenched in the sport lead wiu, and reassuring, because she's full of knowledge through experience, trials, errors, etc., so she can always give insight or point you in the right direction. she's learning more about herself, the sport, and how we can better close the gap and get more women and diversity in the sport, all while training for various distances, including more 200+ milers (recently completing @wildhorse200)i've been a bit of a hermit lately because being in bigger spaces feels like too much effort and noise that i don't have the capacity for right now, so it's nice to have this space with zero beforehand dread, where i feel like i can come as i am—quiet, chatty, happy, sad—it's automatic comfort. i joked that going to wiu feels like being dropped off at dance class, where you're just giddy with anticipation to have some woodsy gworl time 😝 🫶🏻#womeninultrarunning #trailrunning #girlswhorun #seenonmyrun #getoutside by @sloggingtosweets

a big effort for a little bitty backyard ultra—42 miles to be exact, and a mileage pr (previously 33 miles) ✨️ @therunningkind_ knows how to throw down and this honestly might be my preferred method of racking miles up. to say it was an honor to be around people with such grit and will to run a 3.5 mile loop over and over and over again while still exuding joy and support for eachother is an understatement. we all started this together for our own reasons, inspired eachother to keep toeing the line, and ultimately chose our own adventures to pursue alongside eachother until we decided our time was up.i'm still getting used differentiating between the good kind of going-through-a-hard time you choose and the bad kind of going-through-a-hard time you didn't choose. the latter is what makes the former difficult to find power in, and shockingly—because i just ran 42 frickin' miles—acknowledge as an accomplishment. i think that's why i do this. i'm looking for the hard time i choose to define me more than the hard times i didn't choose ever did, but i'm not there yet. i'm looking for my confidence, that has no reason not to come through, to outshine any sort of doubt or imposter syndrome, but i'm not there yet. this isn't an escape—it's a way to dig deeper, and this goes so much deeper than even i know yet.thank you to @aimskoh for being so intentional and making others feel her impact through races like thesethank you to @_bradleyrunning_ for always taking his time with me and for making it known every single day that he's here, and here to staythank you to @ekoh_friendly for being out there taking pictures and capturing our joy in the play that comes with trail runningthank you to @womeninultrarunning for creating the space for women, making me feel supported and worth celebrating, and getting it, when the world mostly seems to question why we're doing this, rather than commending us for being brave enough to trythank you to everyone who crewed, cheered, volunteered, brought your pups, etc.—you made a huge differencethis weekend was made up of all the ingredients that make a good life, and i can't wait to keep living it one loop at a time 💜 by @sloggingtosweets

i found myself needing a lot more alone time this weekend. it's confusing when you're an empath and want so much for everyone else, but some weeks you want very little to do with other people and need to *only* take care of yourself (and your lil doggy). i think i've always been in this discovery phase—where i'm figuring out how to show up for both myself and others in a way that feels balanced and authentic. but i'm realizing the scales will always be tipped one way or the other, and that's okay, as long as it never stays on one side for too long. it helps having people in your life who understand this about you, who you can say "i need to be taken care of now" or "i need to be alone" to, without them making you feel bad.i ~did~ slog to sweets this weekend, and did my first mid-run sweet at the clark park farmer's market and the sweet was very good and sat in my tum well. but i don't feel the need to give the bakery i went to further exposure after finding out the owner is actually a poopy doo doo head. i don't feel bad that this shortens my list of bakers/bakeries in philly that align with my values and i don't feel like i'm missing out if it means giving more attention to bakers/bakeries that do.i was happy to get out on both road and trail this weekend, and surprisingly, to get out in the heat. we all train in and for the perfect conditions (i.e., only running on road, running early in the morning when it's cooler, running before or after it rains, rather than when it's raining, etc.), but that doesn't really help us prepare for a race day in less ideal conditions. it just kinda causes us more discomfort on a day we trained all this time for. so, i'll be focusing on sitting in discomfort comfortably this summer, because it's a choice i get to make for myself to better prepare for what's to come.#girlswhorun #trailrunning #seenonmyrun #getoutside #sloggingtosweets by @sloggingtosweets
