How hard was it to get into #CalPoly this year?

Though it saw fewer applications this year compared to 2025, the #SLO campus was still competitive, with some majors reporting seats available for less than 3% of those who applied, according to a Tribune analysis of university data.

You can view the numbers for each of the available majors for both freshman and transfer applicants by visiting sanluisobispo.com or by clicking the linked article.

The Lucia Mar school board rejected an effort to ban a prize-winning author’s book from the #ArroyoGrande High School #library at a meeting on Thursday.

“The Bluest Eye” centers on a young Black girl and her experiences with internalized racism and cyclical abuse in post-Depression-era Ohio.

The novel has seen #bookban attempts in schools nationwide due to its discussions of incest, sexual abuse, racism and other concerns that the content is too mature for students.

Photos from an anti-ICE protest in February were published in a high school yearbook, causing a stir among parents in #SLOCounty.

Some say the profanity in the photos, which displayed phrases like “F-ck ICE” and “F-ck MAGA,” shouldn’t have been published in the school yearbook — but students say they’re glad they were.

“That’s what happened,” said Paso Robles student Jesus Ursulo, who helped organize the February protest and is also a student journalist but not part of the yearbook staff. “And realistically, like, blurring that out or taking that out of a book is removing what actually happened in history.”

A group of #CalPoly community members marched through campus on Friday in protest of the university’s use of #Flock cameras.

Cal Poly says the cameras enhance campus safety, but students have concerns about privacy and worry that data could be weaponized by #ICE or other law enforcement agencies.

Cal Poly says its data is shared with outside law enforcement only by request, but can’t be shared with immigration enforcement without a court order.
