Had a fun adventure out at Silver Falls State Park. I was concerned because the North Falls parking lot is small and usually packed. But to my surprise when I showed up at 8am on Thursday it was empty.

I didn’t know what to expect and sometimes I think it’s for the best. All I knew was I had a hard 2.8 mile climb to the top and then the rest would be a fun decent and meandering back to the car.

The trail was quiet till the last 5k when I hooked back up with the popular spots in the park. But the quietness, beauty and wildlife was exactly what the soul needed.

Towards the end I was able to fine some streams to get my hands wet, wash my face and cool down a bit. It was so enjoyable I could have stayed all day and bathed in the ice cold water.

But I kept pushing on and just enjoyed the journey.

Upon returning to cell service I also had a phone call from Reid Veterinary Hospital letting me know Kona was ready to come home, which made me happy. I’m just glad that he is back safe at home.

Got back out on the lake today for a swim. 🏊🏻‍♀️ I’ve been wanting to push my distance for a while now and finally did it.
I swim on a private water ski lake with a Slalom Water Ski Course on it. Typically I just go one end to the other but today I added in an extra down and back from gates to gates. In the end I was just under 1 mile. Felt great, and happy with my time considering I was just at a real nice and easy pace.

Yesterday was the hardest day of my life. We had to say good bye to the best boy ever,Kona🐾.

Kona fell ill two months ago with Non-Regenerative Anima and Evens Syndrome. We did our best to mitigate it and prayed the medication would help. But in the end his body was not responding.
He fought hard to be with us as long as possible. Until a week ago. He let us know he was tired and ready to visit the Rainbow Bridge 🌈 where he could watch over us and wait pain free.
He was so calm and had a sense of peace around him when his time came. He will forever be in our hearts ❤️.
Kona was our everything. The weekend before Kona let us know it was time, we purchased this beautiful tree to plant for him. And unrelated to the tree Mike also brought up the idea of buying a humming bird feeder, which we did.
This morning when I went to take a picture of Kona’s tree, I got a surprise visitor, The Humming Bird. He hovered is this location long enough for me to fumble with my phone to access video so I could capture this moment. He was closer to me than any of the hummingbirds have ever gotten. And just now as I am writing this He came back again.

Kona boy, we love and miss you so much, you will forever be on our hearts and memories.

Crazy to see the evolution of a garage fridge is over 10 years.

When we moved into our first home it was all about the drinks. Beer, Ciders and variety. The soda water in the first picture was a mixer for mixed drinks, vodka not pictured.

Fast forward to our garage fridge tonight and you can see we have a wide variety of soda waters and a couple beers, legitimately 2. And a wide variety of soda waters, LMNT, Kombucha, Liquid Death and more.

Glad to see we have grown and made some healthy decisions in the last 10 years. Here’s to the next 10 of continued personal growth.

I know I should be lifting heavier for the majority of my lifts, but something about being mid 40’s and lifting alone at home. I feel like it’s better to play it safe than sorry cause Injuries SUCK!

But who doesn’t want to hog the fan on a hot summer day. Best part of working out alone at home.

Runs are feeling good. Today it was only 76 in the garage which I’m sure helped.
Still not loving my pace, I’m stuck on the numbers and know that’s not the best way to progress. So I’m doing my best to trust the journey. On the flip side I am constantly getting better at running small inclines.
Maybe for now that should be my main focus. Cause I know the trails are definitely not flat. ⛰️

Kona decided not to join me in the gym, but wanted to spend time with dad watching golf. ⛳️

Stats:
2.02 miles
26:06 time
185ft elevation gain

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect running top for the warmer months.

First I was thinking about a long line sports bra, but I personally don’t like the way they look on me. What I do enjoy is the feeling of not having much on. And being able to feel the breeze on my overly sweaty body.

Then while flipping through IG I can across @baklinerunning and their Far Rockaway Crop CON, while it looked cute, lightweight, breathable and sweat wicking, I figured why not.

Today I took it on a test drive. Im surprised and extremely pleased with how it preformed. To say I’m picky is an understatement. The airflow I got through the back panel was appreciated and the sweat wicking capabilities worked wonders for me.

Now to get a couple more so I won’t be doing laundry daily.

if anyone has suggestions on the perfect sports bra let me know.

Ten years ago Mike and I moved into our first house. Shortly after moving in I started to talk about getting a dog.
Finally in October of 2016 I wore him down and he said yes. But the catch was we had to do that day.
My hope was to find a puppy from a shelter. But I quickly learned that you had to be at the shelter right as they opened if you wanted a chance to adopt one. And of course we didn’t start our search till around noon.
I remember driving all over. We went to the humane society in Portland, Vancouver and I’m sure a couple other places before landing at Family Dog New Life Shelter.
Once again all the puppies had already been adopted out. But Mike was getting tired of looking so I looked through their book of adoptable dogs to make him happy. But none jumped out as my heart was set on a puppy.
Mike looked at me and said “ Are you sure” I opened the book again and said well this one but he’s not a puppy he’s already 1 1/2. Older than we wanted and could have some bad habits.
The staff brought him “Buster” out front for us to meet. He wanted nothing to do with us. He was terrified and wanted out of that room so desperately he tried to climb the half wall to escape. And wanted nothing to do with either of us.
But Something in me told me he was the one. We took him out for a quick walk where I learned quickly how scared he really was and how he definitely didn’t know how to walk on a leach.
But that changed nothing. We went back inside and started the adoption paperwork.
That day he became Kona Short.
He definitely wasn’t an easy dog, he was a hand full. He came from the streets and you could tell a nasty beginning to life. Luckily he learned to love and trust Mike and I. And over the years he has become the best dog ever. I am so grateful Mike had me look again and that he chose us to be his pawents.

Not sure what the future holds for us or how long we have, but we will love him till the end, and he will continue to save me each and everyday. I am grateful for his unconditional love & friendship. Without him and Mike I don’t think I would be half the person I am today.

Last year we redid our back yard. This summer we’ve been enjoying lots of wildlife 🐦‍⬛🐤 Seems like Kona isn’t the only one who is enjoying our water fountain ⛲️

Watch closely in the box. This little birdie took a turn on the weathervane before flying down to get a drink of water.

Second time doing this run. The first half is all climbing and kicks my butt.
Legs felt good but almost felt like I was on the verge of hyperventilating, really need to learn how to keep my heart rate down when I climb. And trust me the big climbs are me walking. Not sure I could even get a shuffle in at this point.

On words and upwards. I know it won’t get easier I will just get better.

Costco Wins again.

Each trip I make a list and plan to stick to it.

But somehow @costco always seems to win.

Been eyeing a pair of recovery boots for sometime now. And when I saw them in the warehouse ON SALE, I just had to put them in the cart. Because you know if you don’t grab them now they won’t be there the next time you’re in.

Also, it’s never a question to quality with Costco, plus their return policy is hard to beat.

8 years ago today I tried to make Kona my trail dog. But after a short 3 mile ride, I was scared he would run himself into the ground if we went for longer ones.
Even though I didn’t get my trail dog I was really hoping for, I got a whole lot more. He has become my best friend and the best dog I could have ever hoped for.
Here’s to many more years with him by my side, lounging in the sunshine and me trying desperately to get that perfect selfie with him.

PS he is not a fan of the camera 📷
