Hello, howdy 👋 if we don’t already know each other, my name is Em and I live in South Philly with my partner, two kitties, and our pup!

Aside from the work you see here, I also do freelance CAD (hmu if your jewelry business needs a designer) but what I enjoy most is designing and making custom pieces for people I’m working with directly. It is so much fun to bring someone’s thoughts and ideas into the physical world, and with materials and processes that allow them to last many lifetimes.

Aside from work, I love to cook, love hanging with friends over a cold beer (or three), and I LOVE a good house project. The past few months I’ve been spending most of my waking hours in my 11’x7’ home studio figuring out what it means to work for myself (still figuring.)

🥲 crying and typing 🥲 sometimes I’ll scroll through this work that I’ve been putting all my time into for the past several months (years) and just think “ok cool, more jewelry in the world.”

And other times I see how these little things, these little decisions, have been shaped by all the time and all the love and all the sadness in my life, and more importantly by the people who have shaped me. How trading in a steady paycheck for something so uncertain is actually fulfilling a part of a major dream I have always had for myself - and how privileged I am to be in a position to take this risk (let’s cross our fingers though).

I think about how comforted I feel to be surrounded by objects once belonging to loved ones who’ve passed, how sometimes assigning meaning to objects can make those people feel less far. How jewelry functions in many ways (not all good) but that I have the opportunity to help people create these mementos, these connectors to people and places and moments, and what an absolute honor and privilege that is as well.

and to conclude this week’s sappy wedding posts, this is a little charm I made for my brother for his wedding day 〰️ it may not look like much (keep in mind that he’s not much of a jewelry guy) but it packs a lot of sentimental punch 💓

our mom passed in 2023 (I will never understand how time works anymore) and I wanted to make sure my brother had a little piece of her with him as he walked down the aisle last weekend 〰️ hand-engraved on the front is her “mama” signature, known only by her two kids from all the little notes she’s written us over the years 〰️ on the back, an engraved message I spliced together from her handwriting samples so he could be reminded that she is with him, that day and every day

he attached this little keepsake to a pocket watch chain that was passed down from my mom’s side 〰️ a subtle little way to carry her with him 🌞 taken in South Philadelphia by @slow_form
