Why is rest so hard to find?

Rest seems to have become a scarce commodity these days. Our society has conditioned us to believe we’re only useful when we’re busy, and to feel "unproductive" or “guilty” if we're not. So much so that the culture of immediacy and rapid production seems to be the downfall of furniture businesses lately.

We instead choose to produce timeless and functional furniture, fit for curious modern homemakers, looking to invest in beautiful pieces that contribute to an improved sense of interior wellbeing. Using straightforward materials and fabrication processes.

We produce quick to assemble pull out sofa beds, by hand, in London. Designed flat pack to be space saving, so you can easily re-assemble them without the need for complicated tools. Each is exclusively made to order in limited batches/per season and can be customised to suit your personal interior.

SLOWE Living® is joining @shoreditchdesignweek 2026.

From 15–17 September, we’ll be at House of Icon in Shoreditch Town Hall presenting our evolving collection of British-made furniture and sharing the next stage of SLOWE’s work across residential, hospitality and commercial interiors.

SLOWE started with a simple question: how do you design furniture to stay useful for decades?

Our original Sofa Bed was designed around that idea. Rather than hiding a complicated metal mechanism inside, its construction is deliberately simple: the timber frame can be disassembled, upholstery removed, and individual cushions and components repaired or replaced over time.

It can move house. Adapt to different spaces. Be refreshed rather than discarded.

At Shoreditch Design Week, we’ll be talking more about how those same principles can work at a larger scale with architects, interior designers and specifiers - from private homes and residential developments to serviced apartments, hotels, hospitality and workplace environments.

For us, these projects all come back to the same principle:

Produce less. Make it useful. Make it last.

Earlier this month, we worked with @newbalancerunning and @generation.works on ‘Set Pace Performance Service’ space around The Big Half in London.

Set Pace was built around the rituals either side of performance - preparation, movement, recovery and community, and the idea that rest is just as important as the movement itself.

We supported on the creation of custom furniture for the event, in a space for guests to slow down, gather and recover, with three SLOWE Sofa Beds alongside a low communal table and meditation cushions.

It felt like a very natural fit for SLOWE. A lot of what we’re interested in is the space between doing things - exploring objects and environments that give us permission to stop and take it easy.

SLOWE Living® joins @newbalancerunning for Set Pace, a performance-led experience taking place around The Big Half in London, initiated by friends and creative agency GENERATION.works.

Set Pace explores the rituals surrounding race day - bringing together preparation, movement, recovery, knowledge and community within an environment, conceived somewhere between a performance workshop and a place to pause and relax.
