🍁 come see me & a bunch of other cool artists at various zine fests this fall! by @slowpezart

over a month late but here is my #artvsartist #artvsartist2024 , this time with a different format than in the past! you can also swipe to see my last 4 years of art vs artist i’ve done, starting way back in 2020.

this past year, my creative practice definitely looked different than it has in recent years. i was searching for a new job for most of 2024, and that plus the multiple part time jobs i took in the meantime meant i didn’t have as much dedicated creative time as i have in the past. because of this, the time i did have went mostly towards fiber arts, as that is the medium i found gave me the most joy this past year. over all, i know output isn’t everything, and i’m just glad to have been able to retreat to my studio when i needed some reprieve from the craziness that was 2024 - both personally and in terms of these “unprecedented times” we find ourself in.

if you read this far, let me know which of the pieces in my art vs artist is your favorite (if you want of course)! by @slowpezart

🎉 Obligatory year end post reflecting on 2025 (including my personal wrapped & a quote that guided me this year) plus bonus vision board for 2026! Calling 2025 full of change and challenges is putting it lightly, but nevertheless: onward! My phrase to live by in 2026 is “god grant me the serenity to accept the things that are so over, the courage to say f*ck it we ball, and the wisdom to know we are so f*cking back” by @slowpezart

I had such a great time yesterday talking fiber arts with Aylin from @rhodeandsons at the art market hosted by local-to-me coffee shop @moonwolftx. She chainstiched my initials on this beautiful vintage bandana - if you haven’t ever seen chain stitching in action, check out the fourth slide - it’s super cool and a medium I have so much respect for!

A close up of my chain-stitched initials!

Here you can see my initials and more of the design that this cool vintage bandana came with.

The way a chainstitch machine works is mind-bending to me - it reminds me of block printing the way I imagine you have to train your brain to think and see in ways you usually doesn’t. by @slowpezart

Just playing around in edits, I know I’m probably the last person on earth to do so! But i got inspired to make this reel when @rileyvanderzee made a similar one - because that’s how real creativity works, artists are inspired by our community & our surroundings and we absorb elements and ideas we love like sponges and remix them and put our own spin on things. Not any of this prompt garbage!

Also in very exciting news I just got a new iPad yesterday so hopefully I will have more new art & zines & projects to share soon, yippee! by @slowpezart

a little then & now collage comparing some of the myriad of art I’ve made of everybody’s favorite wacky space fantasy and the characters that inhabit its galaxy over the past 10 years, in honor of star wars day today!

i think a lot about how the force awakens coming out my senior year of high school & me consequentially getting back into star wars changed my life for the better. i wouldn’t know half the kind talented people i now call friends, have gotten to do half the cool collaborative creative projects I’ve been lucky to be a part of, or be half as far along on my art journey in general if it weren’t for that movie & the brain worms i got in the theater opening night that haven’t really left since.

happy may the forth, may the force be with you, and most importantly: even if you aren’t a Star Wars person, go watch Andor NOW! 🫵 you won’t regret it! by @slowpezart

Swipe to see the crazy photobashing that drawing 5 different hands in different positions require (generative AI could never) and also my original sketch - done on a post it note while between tasks at work.

This is a piece I started exactly a year ago, got as far as finishing the linework, and then gave up on when I didn’t finish it on time to post on May 1. Jokes on me though! The spirit of International Workers Day lives on through us every day of the year. by @slowpezart

I’ll be at @dallaspaperparty this upcoming Saturday, Nov. 22 slinging my wares alongside many other awesome & talented local artists. Come on by to @fcbrewing in Cedars anytime from 12-5pm and say hi! This is the only market I’m doing this fall and likely the only one I’ll be doing for a while. And even besides that, it’s already shaping up to be a really special celebration of print media for the Dallas arts community. I hope to see you (🫵 yea, you!) there :) by @slowpezart

I wanted to both get my crafty plans for the next few months in order, and also participate in the next step of the #petuniapbs2025 which is to share a project you want to start this fall, so your swap partner can get to know you and get some ides of the kind of things you like to make. So this is a dual-purpose post!

In the spirit of letting my creativity guide me and respecting the fact that at heart I am a multi-disciplinary artist who works across mediums both in my professional and personal projects, I didn’t want to constrain myself to just quilting (or even just sewing) projects! I hope that’s okay - if my partner for the project bag swap (you know who you are) is reading this and thinking “of course I got someone who contains creative multitudes smh” then please please message me and I promise I can give some more insight into some more sewing- and quilting-related projects I’d love to tackle this fall.

And to the rest of you on here, thank you for always supporting me as I explore different mediums and play with different subjects and themes in my work. I really, really appreciate that I have this community that’s so welcoming and encouraging even when I don’t fit into a neat little marketable box. Y’all respect me as a human as well as an artist, and that means more than you can know, especially this year as I navigate some big life changes.

In order clockwise from top left, the projects featured are:
🧵 some fall-themed placemats (maybe self-drafted although I’m now also considering using the #playfulplacemats by @cedarquiltco
🎒 the #siahsidekick pattern by @lindshandmade
👖 the #falconerpants by @helens__closet
🧶 the #ingridslipover pattern by @petiteknit by @slowpezart

💻 🎨 Posting this example of my past graphic design work a full 6 months into 2025 because I work full time as a project manager assistant now - which is a good thing don’t get me wrong! I have healthcare! I like my coworkers! I’m not complaining it’s just very different from the types of jobs I’ve had in the past, which were either in the design field or the occasional retail job. But aside from the state of the world and how it is affecting my communities right now making me re-evaluate my relationship with my creativity, this job is definitely effecting how I think about my output in new ways that are both good (I now can put more of my creative energy towards my personal projects) and not always so good (I now devote less time to design work since it’s not a part of my day to day at my job). So I wanted to share this little arrangement I put together last fall to remind myself that I have made cool stuff in the past and I will make cool stuff in the future - it just might take me a little longer right now, and that’s ok! 🫶 by @slowpezart

It’s already almost the end of the month but this post is my love letter to the celebration of making your own clothes that is 👏 ME 👏 MADE 👏 MAY 👏

If you’re not involved in the online sewing community, #memademay is a event incepted by @sozoblog back in 2010 as a way to improve ones relationship with their handmade clothing items that has since grown into a truly spectacular community-wide celebration of making your own clothes.

Sewists share what they’re wearing on a sometimes daily basis (shout-out to all you daily outfit posters, couldn’t be me 😭) and since everybody is different and has different goals with their sewing, those who want to get involved each come up with unique pledges that capture how they want to participate. And as this is the first year I’ve felt like fully participating, here’s my pledge: this #memademay2025 I pledge to put more thought into wearing outfits that make me happy, and then to document at least one weeks worth of what I wear in the form of zine.

So happy #memademay25 to all who get involved and all those who observe and cheer us on. I truly love this little supportive corner of the internet and watching it grow and bring more people into the wonderful world of sewing continues to be so, so cool. Keep on making!✌️ by @slowpezart
