🔥 Katerina Gimon’s powerful work, Fire, performed by the South Loudoun Youth Chorale during our 2026 spring production, Reflections.

Throughout Reflections, we explored the many threads that make up our community—the ways our identities, cultures, faiths, families, and expressions both shape us individually and connect us to one another. Fire captures the tension that can arise when those identities intersect, revealing the push and pull, the friction and the beauty, that exist both within ourselves and within our communities.

Conducted by SLYC Artistic Director Laura Lazarevich.

Some pieces just stop you in your tracks, no matter where you are or what you’re doing.
‘Earth Song’ by Frank Ticheli is one of them to me.

Performed here by the incredible South Loudoun Youth Chorale and Young New Yorkers’ Chorus, this is a moment of stillness, connection, and shared breath. 🌎✨
In the heart of New York City, inside the stunning St. Mary’s Cathedral, these voices came together under the direction of Alex Canovas to remind us why we sing: for peace, for healing, for beauty.

This one always hits deep.

What a night for our Artistic Director! 🩷💚

Last night, SLYC Co-Founder and Artistic Director Laura Lazarevich was officially honored as a member of the 2026 Loudoun 40 Under 40 class! 🎉

Now in its 13th year, Loudoun 40 Under 40 recognizes 40 of our county’s rising business and community leaders under the age of 40—people making an impact in their professions while helping make Loudoun a better place to live and work.

And we can’t think of a more fitting recognition for Laura.

What began as an idea to create something special for young singers in our community has grown into a thriving organization bringing together students from across Loudoun through music, leadership, friendship, and belonging. Laura’s vision, energy, and belief in young people have been at the heart of SLYC from the very beginning.

We loved celebrating her last night alongside so many incredible leaders from across our community—including Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair-at-Large Phyllis Randall!

Congratulations, Laura! Your SLYC family is incredibly proud of you. 🩷💚

We’re almost back! 🩷💚

On October 5, SLYC’s elementary choirs return for a new season of singing, growing, making friends, and finding their voices together.

And there’s still time to join us!

✨ SPARK — Grades 1–2
🔥 IGNITE — Grades 3–4
🎶 ENCHANT — Grades 5–6

All three ensembles are non-auditioned. No previous choir experience required—just come ready to sing, make some new friends, and have a whole lot of fun.

Whether this is their very first choir or they’re ready for their next musical adventure, there’s a place for them at SLYC.

Our first rehearsal is October 5. Come sing with us!

That belief is at the heart of SHINE, SLYC’s newest inclusive choir.

SHINE is a welcoming, non-auditioned ensemble for singers in grades 6–12 and students receiving special education services through age 22. Through music, movement, games, and singing together, we’re creating a place where every singer can participate, connect, build friendships, and experience the joy of making music with others.

No audition. No pressure to fit a mold. Just a place to belong.

Some songs don’t just get sung — they LIFT THE ROOM. 🙌🎶

Throwing it back to Week 2 of SLYC Summer Camp, where our singers brought all the joy, energy, and spirit to Barbara Baker’s arrangement of “The Storm Is Passing Over.” ⛈️➡️☀️

Led by SLYC Artistic TA Myles Lanier, now in his third year at Virginia State University, this one had the whole room MOVING.

Because sometimes the best part of summer camp is realizing what can happen when a bunch of singers come together and just GO FOR IT. 🩷💚

FOR THE KID WHO SINGS EVERYWHERE. 🎶

The one who turns the backseat into a concert stage.

Who makes up songs about what they’re having for dinner.

Who somehow knows EVERY word to a song you didn’t even know they’d heard.

Who hums while they’re doing homework, sings into the hairbrush, puts on performances in the living room, or just seems a little happier whenever there’s music around.

We made this day for them. 🩷💚

FIND YOUR VOICE DAY is a one-day SLYC experience where kids can sing, play, make new friends, build confidence, and discover what happens when all those individual voices come together.

No audition. No experience necessary. No need to already be a “choir kid.”

Just bring the kid who loves to sing.

📅 Monday, September 21 — LCPS Holiday
🎤 Grades 1–5
⏰ 12–4 PM
☀️ Optional before care beginning at 8:30 AM
🎉 Mini-performance at 4 PM

Their school may be closed Monday.
