Let's go back to 2017. When I was 15 years old, I started a bookstagram account by the name of 'thepagesofemma'.
I saw this trend floating about since people are calling 2026 the new 2016, and there's a lot of people who started bookstagram in 2016. I was one year later, but I'm doing it anyway.

My older sister had a bookstagram, and so my twin and I joined in. We would do group photoshoots in the house and in the woods by our house, and it became our shared hobby. We'd take almost weekly trips to the library to pick up new books, and i was surprised by how much I read back then. My book highlights were The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer, Shadow and Bone trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, and the Fallen novel series by Lauren Kate. I also loved making boomerang stories, especially books I had just finished reading. But in 2017, who didn't love a boomerang story?

Essentially, due to bullying, I stopped this account.

Come 2021, Shadow and Bone is being made into a Netflix TV show. Long story short, I created a new bookstagram account that you see today, smallborrowbooks.

I do miss how bookstagram used to be, but I was also younger, and I only had my GCSEs to worry about, and I had far more time for reading. But restarting bookstagram has granted me so many wonderful experiences and new friends that I could never have expected or hoped for. Here's to many more years to come? 👀

Grey skies and cloud winds, you know what that means ... autumn is arriving 🍂

And with autumn, we all know the dark academia aesthetic is going to become the go-to aesthetic as tradition during the colder months. Which then means most people will be rereading or even starting the iconic go-to dark academia book, Donna Tartt's 'The Secret History'.

Reading 'Dead Beat', picking pumpkins, and eating cinnamon sugar donuts, can you get anymore autumnal? 🍂🍁

I'm slowly but surely making my way through Leigh Bardugo's 'Dead Beat'. It's very much giving me the first season of Supernatural (tv show) vibes and i'm here for it. Also finally having a book where Alex and Darlington are interacting with each other in the present is soooo adorable, rather than being memories, soulless, or trapped in hell. And i just know there will more of it to come.

But as with any Bardugo story, i'm waiting for the twist. The gut wrenching drop that will have you staring blankly at a wall for weeks because it can't be emotionally processed.

14.09.26 - The Hell Fire Club

Still can't get over being invited to the release party for Leigh Bardugo's 'Dead Beat', and i'm sorry that I won't be able to shut up about.

Just wanted to say another thanks to our marvellous hosts @ninacdouglas and @gollancz ! I can't stress enough how grateful I am for them hosting something for us UK fans and for making sure we were well fed and hydrated 🥂

Start reading 'Dead Beat' by Leigh Bardugo with me ✨️

As it will come to no surprise, all is going well. It's feeling very much like Supernatural (the TV series) and Ninth House had a child.
And omg, Darlington is really trying to contain himself and keep all manner of hungers at bay.
Alex is still our badass but her health is slightly concerning me but i'm sure will have a classic Bardugo twist come around ...

I'm trying so badly to stay away from spoilers but obviously social media knows I love the series and keeps giving me everyone's "favourite" moments, so I can kinda see some things that are going tk happen.

ALSO I made my own cinnamon rolls for the first time. Not perfect but yummy nevertheless.

Imagine your hobby is being a reader, that's so cool and classy ✨️ You literally get to collect pretty books.

I now have my mits on both UK editions of Dead Beat and love that the two copies are silver and gold. It's like picking between whether your a silver or gold jewellery kind of person. Personally i'm a silver but I also own a few gold jewellery pieces that are family heirlooms.

My plan is to start reading Dead Beat tomorrow because I have the day free. So i'm going to get in cosy clothes, make myself a hot drink, light the candles, and relax. Even better if it starts to rain outside 🤞

I also may or may not have 3 more copies to add to the collection that are in transit as we speak. So.... I think i'm going to need a bigger shelf 🫣

Happy 'Dead Beat' release day weirdos!!!! @lbardugo you've created yet another masterpiece for us devotees.

Thank you so so much to @ninacdouglas and @gollancz for not only inviting me, but holding such a exhilarating evening yesterday! The drinks were flowing, the food was serving, and the magic was blooming.

And thank you to @sanktaindia for gracing me with her presence for the evening. Couldn't have wished for better company to run the gauntlet with 😘

I can't wait to start reading, and i'm patiently awaiting the Postman to deliver my Waterstones special edition so I can devilishly display it's beauty on my Ninth House shelf.

Twas the night before the release of 'Dead Beat', when all through Black Elm, Not a creature was stirring, not even a demon;
The candles were burning, the wards had been set, for Alex Stern's descent was finally here.

Soooo excited for tomorrow to finally get my grubby little mits on Leigh Bardugo's 'Dead Beat'. I've absolutely adored being immersed in this trilogy and can not wait for the finale, even if it breaks my heart.

I've managed to speedly reread 'Ninth House' and 'Hell Bent' so I am all caught up on the story.
But this quote is forever stuck in my head at the moment:
"Comfort was the drug she hadn't understood until it was too late and she was hooked on cups of tea and book-lined shelves,"

Anyway, happy 'Dead Beat' eve 🖤

Hooray for the start of the 'ber months! The most magical months of the year 😉

To start the month off my sister and I decided to have an autumnal day of pumpkin spiced beverages and browsing the shops for autumn/Halloween trinkets. I didn't take a picture (yet) but I bought some really cool skeleton fairy lights that I can't wait to put up.

Also been reading some more of 'Milkteeth' by Caitlin Starling which is definitely perfect for these spooky times 🖤

Books you couldn't pay me to ...

This trend has been floating around for a bit so I thought I'd join in before it disappears and the next trend appears.

Some of these books would come as no surprise to those who have seen me rant about books. These are books I have strong opinions about, both positive and negative. I would say there is no hate towards any of these books, but I do. And some of my hate is towards the author themselves, but I think these issues are well known if you care enough about the book community.

Les Mis is purely because I read it in high school but there is no way I'll ever have the patience nowadays, and in the future, to read that ginormous book again.
