Happy Birthday to me! I just don’t wanna forget this day. :) I had a nice breakfast with my momma (but forgot to get a picture)- then Casey took me on an adventure- starting with an awesome 90 minute massage at Milk+Honey, then a perfect lunch at Bill’s Oysters, and he saved the best for last with surprise cake with the bebehs with a freaking awesome homemade cake by Shelby! Then I got my birthday wish and got to bring the girls home for sleepover where Eloise promptly fell asleep. :)
Oh! Also my amazing tennis team are also my best Austin friends and gave me some love a couple nights ago. 52 is starting off EXCELLENTLY. 🙂 taken in Austin, Texas by @smallmediumhp

Look who we got. :)
Jones Mackenzie Paulson arrived on May 24th (on his momma @shelbyapaulson ‘s birthday!) at almost 9 pounds- with a 100th percentile big ol noggin (Kampsen/Paulson trait,) and a tall 23” body (a McReynolds ingredient for sure.) Happy Birthday to the coolest guy in all of the lands. 🥰 We have a lot of changes going on… a third grandbaby coming anytime now- Casey changing jobs… and my amazing hubs just becomes more and more comfortable and strong in embracing and leading that change. I’m both proud *of* him- and extremely proud to be married to him. So, if you feel so inclined, please join me in wishing him a happy birthday - *even if it’s two days late!

8th grade was a difficult year for me as most of my friends went off to high school. I flunked 3rd grade, so my earliest friends were always a grade above me. Senior year in high school was the worst, but that’s another story.

This is Holly. She transferred to Vernon Junior High that same year. This fiery, feral chick reminded me a lot of my big sis. Smart, pretty and ready to throw hands at any time. So easy to talk to. Her humor and wit kept me in the moment. We had a lot of classes together that year. She moved the very next year. We lost touch, as what happened in the pre-smartphone, social media era.
When I moved away right after high school, our paths crossed again. And then she moved away to college.
Somehow we reconnected ten years later.
These days, we don’t live near each other, but social media helps us stay connected. Last night we were able to meet up. It was a wonderful surprise to be able to have such deep conversations.
As some of you know, a part of my creative research investigates mortality, life after death, trans generational phenomenon and the spirit realm. We had so much to talk about.

Celebrating 30 years of marriage today to my best friend. I am so thankful to have @gohugecase to do life with. And we have created such wonderful humans that have brought other wonderful humans into the fold…. I love it all! ❤️ by @smallmediumhp

Happiest of Birthdays to my Momma! She is 75 today!! We had such a great party last week where her whole downline was there to celebrate. The grandkids set up an Italian theme and we all gave little toasts about our favorite thing about Mickey. Mine was that she never met a brick wall that stood in her way, and she always encourages everyone around her to always look for a different route if the goal seems blocked. And of course, so many people mentioned her kindness. She said it was “the best day she’s ever had.” Love you, Momma!! by @smallmediumhp

My dad died this morning.

I knew it was coming.
I’m sad.

We had a complicated relationship. (But who doesn’t?) My dad was so extremely personable that you wanted his attention (and time.) And when you were physically present with him- YOU GOT IT!! But when you weren’t… you didn’t.

I used to be angry about that. And I felt cheated. I would be jealous of other people’s close relationships with their fathers, and wished I’d had the same.

But I also know now that during the time I *did* spend with him, we would go deep. We’d skip right over the superficial and get into the nitty gritty. So in that sense, I’ve only recently come to realize that Ive probably had a closer relationship with my father than many people do with theirs. We didn’t agree on a lot, necessarily, but I was never afraid to speak my mind - nor he his.

And it might be no surprise when i tell you (again) that one of our biggest debates was about religion. He was a devoutly born again Christian; Lutheran to be exact.
I…. am not. So the whole “going to hell” thing really worried him about me. This is all to say that as his cancer progressed, we had a good laugh over the phone recently that once he passed over, I would be waiting for him to come and tell me, “Holly, you were right!”

“That’s not gonna happen,” he chuckled.

“Ohhhh yes it will,” I laughed.

Dad, I imagine you now “up there,” head just absolutely spinning with all that is going on around you. Things the texts you poured over never mentioned. The absolute unconditional love I’m certain you are experiencing at this very second.

And I’ll be waiting for you to get a hold of me and tell me how you were right about some things and very wrong about others. But I also know I could be waiting a while, because that’s how it’s always worked with us. ❤️
