Launched! (Again)

First session this afternoon was a wonderful experience, and as any good Autist/professional/human I am constantly refining what I do and pretty engaged in my newly found 'special interest' of creating an Autistic Friendly lifestyle.

I realised that one of the things I often forget to do as a Social Worker is to Introduce myself. Call it challenges with small talk and reciprocal socialz, variable capacity, situational mutism etc. etc. but I am coming around to the idea that in some circumstances it will be useful to have visuals or 'communication cards'.

And working Virtually provides me a unique opportunity to do this!

Thanks to this sessions brains for joining me and cocreating a context to companionably attend to our arising interests and needs.

A reminder that this week and virtual body doubling sessions are offered as free/dana sessions, with paid tiers and 1:1 sessions arriving in October.

On my first week of leave being gentle.

Did you know we have little black cormorants as well as little black and white ones?

I did not.

This day looked sooo not like a beach day but was an absolutely magic ocean meets sky day. We were down there for hours just marveling.

At the start of the year, Small Things Social Work made a commitment to set aside $5 from each group ticket sold toward organisations working for First Nations justice.

At the end of this term, that amount comes to $370 and has been paid to Change the Record.

This is a small contribution, and not tax deductable. It is not a donation, rather it is paying the rent.

Change the Record is a First Nations-led coalition working to dismantle unjust systems that criminalise and harm Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

For over a decade, they have focused on addressing high incarceration rates and violence — particularly affecting women and children — including advocacy to raise the age of criminal responsibility. Their work centres self-determination, lived expertise, and community-led, culturally safe approaches to systemic change.

May we continue to centre, listen to, and be guided by First Nations voices, leadership, and knowledge — and take responsibility for the change required within the systems we are part of.

Endings don’t always arrive neatly.

Some things get wrapped up.
Some get paused.
Some just… continue elsewhere.

This is a space to tend to what’s in front of you — whether that’s finishing, letting go, or deciding what comes next.

I’ll also be taking a short two-week break after this week, before the next term begins.

NAIDOC Week recognises and celebrates the strength, culture, and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme — 50 Years of Deadly — marks decades of resistance, advocacy, and community leadership — and the fact that this work continues.

For non-Indigenous people and services, this is also a time to pay attention to the systems that continue to cause harm, and to take responsibility for how we show up within them.

I’ll share a follow-up at the end of the week with a contribution connected to this work.

That point where you can see the end… and everything in you wants to either push hard or stop entirely.

Both make sense.

This is a space to keep things moving at a pace that actually works — steady, uneven, human.

I bring both professional experience and lived understanding to this work.

That means support informed by knowledge of systems and processes, alongside an embodied understanding of burnout, neurodivergence, and fluctuating capacity.

Sessions are practical, ethical, and clearly bounded. The focus is often less on fixing problems and more on creating enough structure, support, and space to work out what comes next.

Support is shaped with attention to pacing, autonomy, and the wider systems people are navigating.

🌿 Small Things Social Work provides low-pressure virtual social work support, body doubling, executive function support, and system navigation support across Australia.

Emails. Forms. Phone calls. Life bits.

Individually small, collectively… a lot.

Thursday sessions are a space to sit alongside that kind of admin — without pressure, without shame, and without having to do it alone.

Sometimes that’s enough to shift things forward.

Sessions are practical, clearly bounded, and collaborative — relational rather than clinical.

You don’t need to explain or justify your experience. We work with it.
