Officially a Hall of Famer in the Northern Michigan University Sports Hall of Fame for Track and Field!

In 2015, I decided to join the team a couple months before the semester started, not really thinking about where running would take me. I mostly ran the 400 and 4x4, then started focusing more on the 800m during my 3rd year.

By the end of my career, I earned 3 All-American honors in the 800m (finishing among the top runners in the country), broken some school records (6 still remain), and received a handful of other athletic and academic honors.

These days, I give back what running gave me by coaching youth T&F & XC through Running Medicine, an Indigenous-led organization.

I’m incredibly honored for the nomination and for the votes and committee who selected me. I’m also honored to share this induction with so many incredible athletes and coaches.

This bookstore was called The Radical Cat and had cats to adopt. Unfortunately she wasn’t going to be flying back with me 🥲💕 We were looking at birds outside 🤣

Wanted to get a lil shakeout run in and googled “are there any reno run clubs that are meeting on thursdays” and ARC popped up! We had 15 min to make it there lol. Fun group to start off the weekend @ascentrunclub.reno

We head to Yerington Paiute Reservation where the 50 mile journey will start - set up camp, screen print t shirts, make prayer ties, eat dinner, and watch the @remainingnative film!

The moment the film ended, a shooting star flew by. A sign that this was going to be a special weekend 💫 (Pic from before the film started)

More background: The Remembrance Run is hosted by Kutoven Stevens (@ku_stevens) to retrace the 50-mile escape his great-grandfather took to escape the Stewart Indian School. This run is split into two days (25 miles per day), with overnight camping and storytelling at Sunrise Pass. There’s stops every 5 miles to regroup and refresh. No one is left behind! This year’s route went from Yerington Paiute Tribe Reservation to the Stewart Indian School Museum, and there was 135 people in attendance.

Saturday morning - 5AM wake up, breakfast, pack up camp, circle up, and begin the journey!

I’m grateful for Rocío and Missy in my life. They are Indigenous matriarchs I look up to. 🪶❤️

Sunset on Day 1 - 25 miles done and dusted…or dusty 😅 Just running on dirt roads under the hot desert sun. (My legs only cramped once btw). We set up camp and eat dinner. There is a giveaway with so many donated items that we go through every name 3-4 times 🌱

We end Day 1 with storytelling - sharing what brought us here, why we’re running/walking, who we’re running for. I shared that my grandpa Bernard attended boarding school and my grandma Myra’s family moved off reserve/changed their name and avoided go by @smanitowabi

What I wore at the NW NARCH Indigenous Addiction Research Training last week. I was telling my friend recently that I don’t really have a sense of style because 90% of my clothing is gifted, hand-me-downs, thrifted, etc. She said, “Well, that is your style!” So here you go. It’s fun to carry little reminders of my friends and loved ones whenever I go. by @smanitowabi

We are excited about the invitation to tomorrow’s (Tues, June 2) screening in Santa Fe of the documentary, Remaining Native.

🎥 @smanitowabi will be opening the event, @m_blanco06 will be on a panel after the screening, and our NWR ABQ group will be sharing some giveaways!

I ♥️ U Shiprock Marathon.

Thank you Native Women Run for the opportunity to run the half marathon race. My goal was to have fun and this event was a blast! So grateful to move, meet other runners, and get my roast mutton + coke 🤤 Congrats to all!
