The words we use with our kids become part of the voice they carry with them. 💙⁣
⁣
Sometimes the most powerful parenting moments are the simplest ones: reminding them that their feelings are allowed, mistakes are survivable, honesty is safe, and asking for help is a strength.⁣
⁣
Which of these sentences do you want to say more often at home?⁣
⁣
Save this for the days when parenting feels hard. ❤️ by @smb.wellness

New around here?
HELLO! 👋🏽

I’m Susie and here’s a bit about me so we can get to know each other better.

‌

👉🏽I’m a 53-year old mom with an empty nest 🐥 I have 5 sons...3 of them live in Australia 🇦🇺, one is in university in the US (go SDSU ☀️!), and my eldest is living his best life, taking his early love of legos to his current job as an engineer 🧱.

‌

👉🏽I grew up outside of Boston, Massachusetts (east coast of 🇺🇸), raised my sons outside of Washington DC, and, when my sons left the nest, I did too! To the other side of the world! 😲 I now live south of Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺

‌

👉🏽 My passion is to help women feel better in their everyday life. I take my mission seriously and use mindfulness and cognitive tools to help women live lives they love. Why? Because...

‌

👉🏽I was raised in a house where I was taught girls weren’t as good as boys; women weren’t as food as men. I learned to be a people pleaser and perfectionist and am still working to recover. 🙌🏾

‌

👉🏽I chose to end a 26-year codependent, emotionally abusive relationship and marriage in order to model to my sons a different way of living and loving. 🥰

‌

👉🏽I have a deep love of travel and learning about other people and their thinking patterns. I’ve been to over 30 countries on 5 different continents. 🌎🌍

‌

👉🏽I’m a master at setting boundaries and establishing healthy relationships. I LOVE helping people feel FREE to be themselves...which leads me to:

‌

👉🏽I’m married to an amazing man who I met on a meditation app leaving a review for a meditation. Our love affair started on opposite sides of the world 🇦🇺🇺🇸 and grows stronger daily using the tools I teach in my relationship coaching. 🩷

‌

So that’s moi (oh right- I was a French high school teacher for 4 years. Can barely speak it now 😹)

What about you?

-Where do you live?
-How do you spend your time?
-Do you have any kids? Pets? Favorite Plants? by @smb.wellness

Do you automatically say, "I've got it"?⁣
⁣
Do you struggle to accept compliments?⁣
⁣
Do you feel uncomfortable when someone does something nice for you?⁣
⁣
You may not think of these things as connected to your childhood.⁣
⁣
But sometimes our adult reactions are old patterns.⁣
⁣
Patterns that made perfect sense when we were younger.⁣
⁣
And patterns we can change now.⁣
⁣
Because we're not little girls anymore waiting for someone else to meet our needs.⁣
⁣
We're the adults now.⁣
⁣
And we can learn to give ourselves the validation, support, consideration and care we've spent years looking for outside ourselves.⁣
⁣
This week's podcast episode is all about the father wound, what it can look like, and what we can do about it.⁣
⁣
And no, you don't have to have had a "bad dad" for this to apply to you.⁣

Every time I’ve gone after something “big” in my life (divorcing with no support as a SAHM, starting my own business instead of getting a 9-5 when I was broke post-divorce, committing to only date emotionally mature men who self-reflect…), people either said “be realistic” or “don’t be delusional”⁣
⁣
Be delusional!⁣
Be unrealistic!⁣
Being realistic means we’re using our past experiences to determine if our future is possible.⁣
⁣
Which means we get more of what we got in the past.⁣
⁣
If you want a future different than your past, you have to think outside the box, you have to throw caution to the wind, you have to do the things that doesn’t have a clear path or guaranteed outcome.⁣
⁣
“What if this fails or what if that …”they say …⁣
⁣
That might happen.⁣
⁣
And then what? Well you’re right where you are now, right 🤷🏼‍♀️⁣
⁣
So why not dream? Be unrealistic? Be delusional?⁣
⁣
Because what I find is that more often than not, it ends up better than you could ever imagine!! ✨✨✨✨ by @smb.wellness

Sound on for this one.⁣

Emotional eating is not a willpower problem. ⁣
⁣
It is the fastest coping strategy any of us ever found, and it works, for about four minutes.⁣

"How was your day?" asks a teenager to sum up seven hours in one sentence. No adult could do that either.⁣
⁣
So ask for one weird detail instead. And ask it sideways, in the car or at the pantry at nine at night. Eye contact feels like an interview. A windshield feels safe.⁣

Guilty. 🙋‍♀️⁣
⁣
I've caught myself telling my kids to get off their phones while scrolling mine. Kids don't learn from our lectures. They learn from watching us.⁣
⁣
So the first shift isn't about their phone. It's about yours. Say less. Do more.⁣
