Returning to his East Village roots, Sei Smith (born 1990) is the homecoming king in S M I L E R S’ first “solo” exhibition.

Outdoor paintings, you say? Oh, how they effervesce out here in the atmosphere !!!!

Sei is a great artist, I say.

He say: can I bring my friends?

I say… maybe?

Intrigued by cyberspace’s potential for playfulness and rawness, painter @gaohangart returns to a moment when digital illusion was visibly imperfect by manually rendering figures from low-poly video games of the ’90s and early 2000s.

Recently, in the two-person exhibition “SMALL WORLD!”co-presented by @smilersnyc and @laurathegallery, Gao and artist @igorsimicandco have materialized the absurdity of digital space. Think: a nine-hole mini-golf course alongside pixelated, glow-in-the-dark dollar-sign sculptures.

𖧋 ⎚/ 𖧋 ⎚/ 𖧋 ⎚/ 𖧋 ⎚/ SMALL WORLD! 06.12.26
♾️ TY to those that came out after a brief but soaking thunderstorm ⛈️ to witness some slippery course conditions and putt (kinda—-but come back for the full 9-hole experience!) with us on opening night❣️

🌎🌍🇨🇳🇷🇸🇺🇸🌏🌎 to the artists, friends (best+new), and entire team that worked together for over six months on s m i l e r s’ most EPIC collaboration yet (IRL in makeshift spray booth studios, woodshops, by hauling eighteen 2x5’ chunks of plywood+astroturf up four flights of stairs to install on sweltering rooftop conditions, AND VIRTUALLY via various platforms from three different continents+time zones, including getting around the “Great Firewall”)—-@gaohangart @igorsimicandco @temprastudio @bumpstudio.nyc @laurathegallery—-you are the true heros ⚔️ of this saga and i am 4ever blessed to know you all :) …money 💸 cannot buy the joy you have brought to this project.

to our SUPERSTAR DJC @davidjcab 🦄 and COOKER #lucalabanca (humble yet indeed a master chef 👨‍🍳🇮🇹) who prepared a delicious s m i l e r s style celebratory dinner—-you two are v generous to have shared your talents with us.

bonus 🧡💙 to the KNICKS 🏀 who won a historic championship while Gao was the artist-in-residence at 431 visiting from TEXAS……..🗽

SMALL WORLD! is now ●pen thru 08.16.26 by appointment in the late afternoons 🌇 and evenings 🌃, send an email to schedule your *free* tee time.
