Intrigued by cyberspace’s potential for playfulness and rawness, painter @gaohangart returns to a moment when digital illusion was visibly imperfect by manually rendering figures from low-poly video games of the ’90s and early 2000s.

Recently, in the two-person exhibition “SMALL WORLD!”co-presented by @smilersnyc and @laurathegallery, Gao and artist @igorsimicandco have materialized the absurdity of digital space. Think: a nine-hole mini-golf course alongside pixelated, glow-in-the-dark dollar-sign sculptures.

Had so much fun at this rooftop mini golf art show, “Small World,” featuring Gao Hang and Igor Simić, at Smilers, cohosted by Laura, the Gallery! I put on my list of art-related Knicks watch parties on my newsletter at SarahCascone.com—but they’ve nixed their event tonight and are open by appointment all summer. Please subscribe to my site and go Knicks! 🧡💙🏀🔥
