Afterglow – The feeling that stays with you after the final note.

This idea sits at the heart of our new identity for Liverpool Philharmonic – inspired by the warmth and lasting impression of an experience at the Hall.

Our starting point was the building itself – Herbert J. Rowse’s 1939 Art Deco landmark, where a composed exterior gives way to a richer, more expressive interior of curves, detail and atmosphere.

That contrast helped shape Afterglow – a flexible, digital-first identity that draws on the Hall’s architecture and carries through visual design, motion, film and photography.

The idea begins with the Hall and moves outwards – reflecting Liverpool Philharmonic’s role in performance, learning, health and the wider community.

A project rooted in place, but designed to move far beyond the building itself.

Holbeche Place brings Mell Square, Drury Gardens and Poplar Yard together as one connected neighbourhood in the centre of Solihull.

The brand builds on the town’s existing character, speaking to locals while helping to attract new residents. The illustration set captures everyday life across the neighbourhood, from a pop-up market in the square to catching up with friends in the gardens. The palette draws on Solihull’s motto, ‘urbs in rure’ – town in the country – and each area has its own wordmark, linked by shared typographic details.

The website we designed and built launched this week, offering a first look at what’s to come as Holbeche Place takes shape. Explore it at holbecheplace.co.uk (link in bio)

After Falcon Bridge, Wandsworth Council asked us to make a new piece for Swandon Way Bridge as part of their Decade of Renewal

The artwork works with the corrugated texture of the bridge, picking up on local icons and landmarks to mark a new gateway into Wandsworth Town and the New Acres development. taken in Swandon Way by @smilingwolf

GPAD. The next phase.

Two years on from creating a new identity and website for the London architecture practice, we’ve been working together again – developing their brand and digital presence to better reflect the practice they are today.

It’s part of an ongoing creative relationship that’s also seen us collaborate on Common and Falcon Bridge along the way.

Lovely to see this latest phase out in the world.

A theatre isn’t just a building.

For @oldhamcoliseum , the challenge was to create a brand that could live beyond four walls – supporting productions across the town today while looking ahead to the reopening of its historic home next year.

Starting with the strategy Every story matters, we developed an identity that’s open, expressive and built to adapt. A flexible visual system, bespoke marque, bold typography and a vibrant colour palette combine to celebrate the many voices, performances and experiences that make up the theatre.

In a world of endless feeds and fleeting opinions, Common slows things down.
Created in collaboration with @gpadlondon , the newspaper is a space for ideas, questions and conversations that deserve more than a passing glance. Launched during April at Solus in Clerkenwell with an evening of talks and discussion, the first issue brought together architects, designers, writers and practitioners to explore the role design can play in shaping culture, communities and the spaces between them.
We’re proud to have played a part in creating something that values thoughtful exchange over instant reaction. It’s a reminder that some of the best conversations still happen away from the screen.

Jot Press, our neighbours on Brick Street, are raising money to invest in a refurbished 1970s foil blocking machine.
It will help them take on bigger projects, spend less time hand-feeding thousands of sheets through a press, and keep producing the beautifully crafted print they’re known for. We should know – they make our business cards!
We’ve pledged because not only are Dan and Becks lovely people, but we also believe it’s important to keep traditional print methods alive and kicking.

There are some brilliant rewards on offer, so please take a look and support them if you can, link in our bio. taken in Baltic Triangle, Liverpool by @smilingwolf

We sat down with the lovely James Quail to talk about his artistic process when creating his renowned blueprint artworks. It’s amazing to see how such complex things can start so simply, and why Jim makes what he makes. A real boost to make this one 💥

It was great to be at @prolific_north Northern Marketing Festival yesterday, taking part in a panel discussion alongside Stephen Ardern from Continuous, Simon Rhodes from Smiling Wolf and Nicola Docking from Poke, chaired by Helen Cross from Growth Platform.

We discussed the city’s agency scene and how regional businesses are competing on a national and global stage.

The clear theme was that geography matters less than mindset. Clients are increasingly open to working with agencies outside London, but the agencies that push beyond their region are the ones that avoid being self-limiting, stay ambitious and prove they can deliver nationally and internationally.

We also heard from Bill Dennett at Uber Advertising on the “now economy” and how brands need to be present at the point of decision, Kimberley Dean from Liverpool Hope University on the role apprenticeships can play in building stronger talent pipelines, and Craig Hannan from The Anfield Wrap on why podcasts should be treated less like an advertising tactic and more like a trusted community.

A great event, with some sharp insights on where the industry is heading and the role Liverpool City Region agencies and businesses can play in that. by @smilingwolf
