Announcement time!

I am incredibly excited to announce the release of my debut album, “Clockwise” on all platforms on August 16! It features four of my original compositions plus one tune written by my great friend and incredible pianist/composer, José André. @joseandre.bo

I’ve been wanting to release an album since writing my first tune in 2020, and I am so pumped that this project has finally come to fruition! Can’t wait for everybody to hear it!!

Very special thanks are in order to the band (@geoffreydeanmusic @grantel00 @tylerponsmusic ) and Jeff Gruber at @bluehouseproductions for being such incredible collaborators on this project. Truly could not have done this without them. ❤️

A couple choruses of alto on my new tune “Rebound” in rehearsal with the @uiowajazz Black Combo for our upcoming Combo Showcase at @tavern.blue 10/5 at 7pm. Really looking forward to playing a tight set of great music with a mega talented group of friends that I’ve shared lots of beautiful musical moments with in just my short time out here. Hope to see my Iowa friends there!

Cherry picking the part of a solo where I play the most/highest/fastest notes and posting it in the hopes that people forget that I folded on the rest >>>

An honor to be able to pick my master’s degree back up with the good people at @uiowajazz - learning a ton and really enjoying living out here! Sharing some proof of life (and proof of tenor) over this amazing @revivebigband arrangement of Speak No Evil by @smithuin_

Had the honor of premiering nine new works by my classmates at the Manhattan School of Music last week. Having a blast meeting and working with lots of wonderful players and people. Here’s a couple clips from a @gracefoxtrpt tune called “28 North Montgomery” and one by @theebookofdaniel called “Echoes of the Wake” by @smithuin_

Stretchin with @joseandre.bo @grantel00 @kj06__ over my tune “Cyriak” at @mr.henrys.dc last Thursday. Huge thanks to all who came out and to @naregharry and @fulvia_fossati for being incredible guests! by @smithuin_

Starting to understand the appeal for blues in G lol. Here's a few notes I played at the Bowman Library this past Friday afternoon!

Another round of due shoutouts to @tristanvoitcu @t.voitcumouthpieces for the killing reface job on this rubber Berg Larsen from the 80s. It's a 10* and really doesn't feel like one!

Missing making music with @nathan_sax.music as he wraps up his Army basic training. Here’s some “Wave” we recorded for fun at his place last summer while I had access to a bass saxophone 😎 by @smithuin_

Some blowing from tonight with the JazzWorx Big Band. Always a pleasure to make some music (and expose my reading chops to the fullest extent) with these folks!

Year 3/4 ✅ Certainly a draining one, but many amazing people were met and musical memories were made. Special thanks to everyone mentioned here, as well as all my talented friends who helped revive the @mathuinsmithjazzorchestra and so many more. Here are just a few highlights!

Bootleg video (special thanks to @steoboe for coming to listen!) of me playing the English horn solo from Ravel’s G major piano concerto. Such a beautiful excerpt and so much fun getting to perform it in the orchestra! Getting my oboe/EH mojo back 😎
