Smitty Wenchel November 8, 2016 - July 16,2026
Our buddiest of the buds, bubs bubs, Smitticus, Mr Buds, Smits, passed away from a heart that broke and we are beyond heart broken. Our first son left us way too soon but we are very thankful for the 9+ years we got to be his parents. He was the smartest, happiest, fun, sweet, most handsome , supportive, and perfect dog.

It’s hard to put into words what he meant to myself and our family. He was adopted at nine weeks. He put his paw out when we first met him and I held his paw as he left us. He was our soul dog. He was originally from Georgia like myself and shared a birthday with dad. He was part of our engagement, huge part of our wedding, the pregnancy, birth ( brought a photo of him for contractions) and bringing baby boy home. He is who would always make me smile, cheer me up, and distract me when needed.

We found out a week prior to his passing unexpectedly that he had a tumor and that our only option was palliative care. We were devastated as Buds always acted young and gave us no inclination he was sick. We brought him home to do all his favorite things and make the best of the time we had left with him. We did slow walks in the neighborhood, went to the roof to watch the sunset, cuddles, extra bacon and treats, and anything his broken heart desired. We are thankful we were able to spend that time together as a family before the inevitable.
During that week he didn’t slow until the very end. He still barked, tried to run to get kitties, loved looking out window for deliveries, got to see some of his favorite people. It was hard to get him to try and relax. He wanted to just be a normal dog.

Smitty was my best friend, constant companion, coworker, best boy, the big baby, a retired influencer, and my everything. I feel broken without him and trying to focus on the many memories and joy he brought to everyone who knew him. by @smittythepup

Smitty here—apparently, I’m getting older… but I feel pretty good about it.

My humans started me on @leapyearsdogs cellular health supplement—a simple two-part chew I’ve been taking for a while now—and I’ve got more curiosity, more interest in daily activities, and I’m still showing up as me every day.

Because aging doesn’t just happen overnight—it starts at the cellular level, which is why supporting it now matters. Leap Years supports healthy NAD+ levels and the body’s natural process of clearing out damaged cells, helping maintain healthy cell function.

I’m here for the walks, the sniffs, and all the little moments in between—and I’m not slowing down anytime soon.

Just taking care of myself now so I can stay as healthy as possible, for as long as possible.

🐾 The bond we share with our dogs is truly something magical. Give them the gift of healthy aging this holiday season. 🐾#ad @leapyearsdogs

Our dogs are not just our companions—they’re family and our best friends. As Smitty celebrates another year of adventures, cuddles, and belly rubs, I’m reminded how important it is as a dog mom to give back the love and care he shows me every day. ❤️That’s why I’m so passionate about helping Smitty age gracefully and stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

I’ve been using @leapyearsdogs soft chew supplements to support his brain health, activity, and overall vitality. It’s a simple way I can help Smitty maintain his zest for life even as he grows older.

Taking care of our dogs as they age is one of the best ways we can honor the incredible bond we share.
