Today is the Pre-day 🎉

Preorders are officially open! 🐍📚
Gizmo the Friendly Snake: Tiptoe’s Serious Hour is my first children’s picture book, and I’m so excited to finally share it with you.

This story is full of friendship, feelings, reptiles, and a little bit of “fresh constricted juice.” 🍊

If you love animals, picture books, or want to support a small creator bringing a reptile-loving story into the world, preordering means so much.

Signed copies are available now through the link in my bio. 💚

Let’s talk veggies 🥗
Food can be way more than fuel for your reptiles, inverts, and parrots! They can:
🥗Hydrate! Some reptiles like Uromastyx lizards don’t drink, others like Sulcata tortoises sometimes forget to drink as much as they should. That’s where functional veggies come to the rescue,
🥗 Vitamins! Just like us, animals need a varied diet to meet their full nutritional needs.
🥗 Enrichment! Let me tell you, the joy a parrot gets from ripping into a mini pepper to munch on seeds is unmatched. Reptiles see in color, and they should eat in color too!

Watch my YouTube live to learn about which veggies are my favorite to add to any of the staple foods!

Sometimes science gets it wrong. Sometimes Apple does too…😂 #tuatara #lizard #science #snakesonsam #reptiles

…For decades, the tuatara was classified as a lizard…
#biology #animalfacts #snakesonsam #reptiles

…before scientists recognized that it belonged to an entirely different branch of the reptile family tree: Rhynchocephalia. Today, the tuatara is the only living representative of this once-diverse lineage, with all of its other known relatives having gone extinct millions of years ago…
#animal #ecology #snakesonsam #reptiles

…Eevee, my BLM donkey that went through captivity-conversion…
#donkey #equine #eevee #snakesonsam #blm

…enjoyed more than two centuries of relatively uneventful classification as a member of the horse family…
#horse #equine #burro #blm #snakesonsam

…That all changed in 2026, when Apple made the groundbreaking discovery that she is, in fact, a tortoise. 🐢

Taxonomy is always evolving.

In 2021, residents of Bixby Knowles in Long Beach, California had an intrusive thought that they collectively acted upon, let’s turn a vacant city lot in the smallest, most urban “National Park” in America. Say it’s the pandemic that went to their brains, but I say it’s a wonderful and quirky way to prove that native plants can be incorporated into even the most urban of environments. I throughly enjoyed how this small neighborhood collectively transformed an uninspired dirt patch into a reminder that nature can be supported right between traffic stops. #nationalparks #nature #nativeplants #snakesonsam #california by @snakesonsam
