There’s a side of Jiu-Jitsu tournaments that most people never see.

While competitors are focused on winning matches, referees are carrying the responsibility of keeping the entire event fair, safe, organized, and moving forward under constant pressure. Every decision is made in real time, in front of hundreds of people, knowing that no matter what call is made, someone will disagree with it.

It’s easy to criticize from the sidelines. It’s much harder to stand in the middle of the mat, make split-second decisions, manage emotions, enforce rules, and carry the weight of an entire division on your shoulders for hours at a time.

The reality is this: without referees, there is no tournament.
No structure. No fairness. No competition. No opportunity for athletes to showcase their hard work.

Before speaking negatively about the people dedicating their time and energy to making these events possible, take a moment to appreciate the pressure they willingly take on for the growth of the sport and the community.

We have nothing but respect and gratitude for every referee who steps onto those mats and accepts one of the most difficult roles in Jiu-Jitsu. Their work deserves far more appreciation than criticism. 🫡

ATTENTION RGV GRAPPLERS!

THE GRAPPLE CRAWL is a new traveling event for the RGV where we invite you, the community, out to train and roll at various gyms throughout the area!

This gives us a chance to cross train with each other, meet new people and experience jiujitsu in a fun and exciting way!

What an amazing day with the team even though I didn’t get the W. One thing is for sure no matter what age group or belt you need to be ready and take your competition seriously.
