“They are young and can’t stand hunger” — this is the reality of life in Gaza right now. Sabreen (@sabreen_najm ) goes without meals so her children and orphaned nephew have enough to eat. Israel is starving Gazans by allowing no food or aid into the Gaza Strip, and the price of flour — the only food available— is 7-14x its pre-war price (you have to pay $100 extra for flour without maggots). Today... will we eat, or will it be like yesterday?

My husband, my child, and I haven't eaten a single bite since yesterday.

Hunger isn't just an empty stomach... it's a silent pain that dwells deep inside us. 💔
We look at each other, trying to appear strong...
Each of us hides our fear so the other doesn't break down.

It's not the hunger itself that's the hardest part,

but the feeling of being ignored amidst your suffering.

But we still cling to hope. 🤲

Let this be a reminder that effective resistance to oppressive and brutal regimes must come, first and foremost, from the people of that country. We can support their struggle, but we’ll never bomb a country into liberation. In fact, reactionary fundamentalists like the Taliban are formed in response to the national trauma from colonial wars and unending imperialism

This Christmas, consider donating to my friend Wajdi and his family, who lost everything in Gaza. Wajdi and is mother used to take care of stray cats before Oct 7th — now all those pets are dead, killed my the Israeli occupation, and the family is homeless and cold. Link to donate is in my bio.

This sisyphus task is what my friend mohammedkamel1999 was doing all of us last night, trying to keep is pregnant wife and two year old son from drowning inside their tent. As you can see from the second video taken just now at an Internet cafe, it is still raining. Mohammed and his family desperately need help to be able to afford rent in a building higher up in Gaza, and they need money to buy his son, Hashim, warm clothing for the winter.

توقفت الحرب، لكننا لم نشعر بذلك؛ لأننا نعيش حروبًا متعددة يوميًا.
الحياة في الخيمة بائسة، والبحث عن الماء والدواء مهمة مُهلكة. التعليم شبه مستحيل.
نحن نعيش حياة صعبة ومُثقلة، وأملنا الوحيد هو العودة إلى روتين حياتنا الطبيعي.

The war has stopped, but we haven't felt it; we are living through many daily battles.
Life in the tent is miserable, and the search for water and medicine is an exhausting ordeal. Education is nearly impossible.
