Last week, Brock and I came to a fork in the road. (lol, check my stories… it was so weird.)
ANYWAY.

Brock and I met two years ago this coming Sunday. It was right after my grandfather had died and I’d quit my job. (And it was on his birthday. 🤪🥳) Obviously, I was ready for something new. Something Good. Right? I’d just jumped off of two cliffs—grief and uncertainty. What was one more?

My bravado told me that if anyone was gonna get an A+ in dating… it was going to be ME. 😤

But despite feeling ready, I did feel like I was also quietly waiting for the other shoe to drop. Like maybe I actually deserved an F minus minus in love. I was already used to feeling like a failure. So I ventured into this waiting to see it—me—fail. (Spoiler alert: yikes.)

Those expectations left me feeling out of control pretty quickly. (Ask him how many times I tried to back my way out of our budding relationship like 🫡😗✌🏾) My heart wounds were flaring up. A lot. And I believed them. They told me I was waiting around to get hurt, to be punished. The alarm system around my heart told me that the lowgrade anxiety I felt was God and that He was disappointed in me. For not being “good enough” or “ready”. Everything told me I was headed for heartbreak, and worse, I was scared that I deserved it. 🚨

My prayers during this time were filled with doubt. If life was a boat, my heart was making me seasick.
But GOD.

Without fail, every time I’d send a signal flare to the Lord to GET ME OUTTA HERE… the person paddling over in a lifeboat of Grace was Brock. 🚣🏼 And somehow, whenever my heart came to a fork, Brock came in with just the right words to say—sometimes the exact answer to prayers I’d only prayed in secret.

But our relationship wasn’t meant to be the Rescue Mission that saved me from my fears. That’s too much pressure to put on two humans— too much weight. So last summer, we made a really tough decision together.

But GOD.

We set up a lot of things beforehand in prayer, people in our corner, anchor verses to tether us to the truth. And because His promises are true— say it with me— it ALL worked together for our good! ✨Continued in the comments. by @snoboots

Ode to last summer! 🎥

I had already tried that dress on earlier that session. And I loved every dress after… but something kept bringing me back to this one. So when I put it again, I wasn’t expecting to feel right at home… to feel like I was seeing a very familiar me. So when I looked in the mirror realized this might be it… the waterworks started going… and Momma jumped in with confetti (not really, but she obviously wanted to) 🥰 to add her little sparkle and shine!

Excitement, love, preparation for Good Things To Come boy… it’s all contagious. And sometimes, those are feelings that are just hard to surrender to. But it’s always best when you finally just let go, throw your hands up, and enjoy the ride! 🙌🏾🎢🥳 taken in Bridal Suite Boutique by @snoboots

girls with big foreheads are unbothered. ✋🏾

in addition to rebranding myself as a westchester woman, i am a new business owner — and attempting the impossible goal of obtaining a VERY expensive lease for a brick & mortar arts and crafts store.

well, im saying impossible. God’s saying “what’s the best that could happen?” and honestly, hoping for THAT feels the worst. ❤️‍🩹

time feels limited, the season is changing (or is it) and i feel desperate find purpose in my community. i want a chance to finally get to support artists in what they do best: ART.
🖼️ 🧶🧵🪡📝📚

the only hurdle is—is this the right space at the right time? (hurdles??)

Here’s the truth of the past 2 years: there’s a lot that didn’t go to plan, in a gutpunch kinda way.

Last year, I lost the apartment I loved, the work I hoped for never came, I had to leave Brooklyn & move back home with my mom. We ended up in Westchester. And under the weight of the weird, we couldn’t be officially married on our wedding day.

Last-minute changes meant we didn’t have a licensed officiant in time. And because neither of us was living in the place where we’d planned our wedding, and because of paperwork complications, we had to petition the mayor to make it legal.

So after a Hail Mary email sent on Christmas Eve, we ended up getting married 7 days later; the day before my birthday. I remember it was warm for December. I was in a vintage dress I’d thrifted at the last minute. After, my new husband and I ate at a diner then walked through Barnes & Noble in the mall. Nothing about it looked like the “official” wedding I planned. And because of that, it was perfect.

It’s nearly a year later. Not everything has “fallen into place.” Work, housing, life. It’s messy and sometimes disappointment hangs around in my bones and guts. But I’ve married someone so steady, so rooted, that our circumstances continue to reshape my faith. Not because I’m forcing it. Not because I can even pretend to believe in the outcomes. But just because that’s who God has proven to be.

I wrestle with that. I think faith should mean my heart and spirit always match, that I step forward with confidence. And when I don’t, I get guilty, ashamed. But I’m learning that faith is believing in what feels impossible. It’s not having the picture, plan, or even having hope. Faith is me showing up at God’s doorstep even when I don’t know how.

On my “official” wedding day, the only people who needed to be there were me, Brock, and God. And everything we wanted was added in.

These pictures are my reminder of what God can do with my fragile, uncertain steps. That He isn’t waiting on my readiness, or certainty, or even belief. That has been the hallmark of this first year of marriage: learning Grace, waiting, trusting, and seeing all about what the Lord will do. taken in Bernards Township by @snoboots
