LAF NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THEIR 2027 CSI PROGRAM

Are you interested in assessing and documenting the benefits of a high-performing landscape project? The Landscape Architecture Foundation's (LAF) Case Study Investigation (CSI) program is a unique research collaboration and training program for faculty, students, and practitioners.

Through CSI, LAF funded faculty-student research teams work with leading practitioners to document the impacts of exemplary, high-performing landscape projects. Teams develop methods to quantify the environmental, social, and economic benefits of built projects and produce Case Study Briefs for LAF’s Landscape Performance Series.

2027 CSI PROGRAM TIMELINES
Nov 1, 2026 - Applications due
Dec 2025 - All applicants notified
Feb 1 - Aug 2, 2027 - CSI program runs
Sep-Dec 2027 - Resulting case studies published

Hongjoo Kim was elevated to ASLA Fellow last Thursday at the ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture's Fellows and Honors Gala. Join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved honor.

Kim is a visionary design leader whose work elevates landscape architecture as a powerful civic and cultural practice. Over nearly three decades, he has built an influential body of public work that brings together storytelling, environmental performance, and social equity to create landscapes that reflect and serve diverse communities.

As Founder and Principal of HKLA @hkla.inc Kim has led more than 120 projects for over 40 public agencies, shaping parks, campuses, healthcare environments, and civic spaces across California and beyond. What sets his work apart is a process-driven approach rooted in uncovering the unique narratives of each place. Through research, community engagement, and careful design, he transforms these stories into meaningful spaces that foster identity, belonging, and long-term stewardship.

Across all scales, Kim’s designs are distinguished by their cultural sensitivity, ecological intelligence, and measurable public impact. His leadership within ASLA and allied organizations further amplifies his influence on the profession.

📢 Did you hear the big news at the ASLA Conference last week???

CLARB announced a $500,000 gift to the ASLA Fund to launch CLARB Exam Success Grants! This initiative will provide financial support to eligible L.A.R.E. candidates facing economic challenges in pursuing licensure. The program will be administered by the ASLA Fund over the next three years.

"We know that the path to licensure looks different for every candidate. Some have robust financial support behind them, and others are making this journey largely on their own. This grant program reflects our belief that where you start should not determine how far you can go."

Say hi to our 2026-27 ASLA So-Cal President, Jared McKnight!

No stranger to ASLA leadership, Jared has been an outstanding ambassador since he joined in 2019. A Senior Associate and Designer at WRT, Jared served as President-Elect this past year and the Emerging Professionals Chair the year prior. Other roles include 3 years on ASLA's National Student Advisory Committee and President of USC's ASLA Student Chapter.

I am beyond honored and excited to step into the role of President of our ASLA Southern California Chapter this September as we welcome the ASLA 2026 Conference on Landscape Architecture to Los Angeles. Over the next year, I look forward to meeting more of you, better understanding how ASLA can support and advocate for our members and the profession, and creating more opportunities for us to connect, learn from one another, and celebrate the incredible work happening across our region.
