Learning to draw is also learning to see.

Through shading, students learn to observe how light, form, depth, and proportion work together—and how small changes can affect the way a form is perceived. It’s a simple exercise, but one that builds an important design skill: understanding why something looks the way it does, not just how to draw it.

At SoFA, these fundamentals become part of how students learn to observe, interpret, and communicate ideas through design.

For our second collaboration with @not.arunclub, a community built around running and movement, SoFA students and members of our community came together for a morning of movement, conversation, and good company outside the studio.

Stepping outside the studio gives our students and community the chance to connect, recharge, and experience the world around them in a different way. Because creativity doesn’t only happen at the desk or in the studio—it can also come from movement, conversation, and simply being together.

SoFA Interior Design alumni collective @cura.designco designed a Leukemia Ward at the Cancer Institute of Philippine General Hospital in collaboration with @iwanttosharefoundation.

The project brings interior design into a setting where function, environment, and human experience are deeply connected. It is a meaningful reminder of how much good design can contribute to the spaces we rely on most—and how much thoughtful, well-designed environments are needed in our country.

For SoFA, projects like this reinforce why design education must go beyond aesthetics, preparing designers to approach complex spaces with thoughtfulness, skill, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Good design is not simply about making a space look better. It can make spaces work better, feel better, and serve people better.
