We believe that every child deserves access to books, but we also believe that children should have opportunities to develop skills that can help them build a better future.

Our work goes beyond encouraging students to read. We are also creating opportunities for them to learn practical skills that can help them earn a living and, one day, afford the books they need to keep learning.

This week, our students are learning bead making, building their creativity, developing new skills, and discovering new possibilities for themselves.

Because literacy matters, but so does empowerment. We want our children to have both the knowledge to dream and the skills to turn those dreams into reality.

As part of activities marking World Cleanup Day 2026, Our volunteers in Abuja joined other organisations and volunteers for a community cleanup at Wuse Market, Abuja.

This year’s World Cleanup Day theme, “Strive for Five,” calls for collective action by encouraging at least 5% of a population to participate in environmental action. The focus is not only on cleaning up waste, but also on getting more people involved in taking responsibility for their communities.

At SofaDonDo, our work with schools has largely focused on advocacy and creating better opportunities for young people. However, the environment where young people live, learn and grow also matters.

That is why our advocacy goes beyond the school environment.

The Wuse Market cleanup was an opportunity to contribute to a cleaner public space while working with other organisations and community members towards the same goal.

Strive for Five is a reminder that environmental action cannot be left to a few people. More people need to participate. More organisations need to get involved. And communities need to take ownership of the spaces around them.

At SofaDonDo, we are committed to contributing to that process through advocacy, community engagement and practical action.
