Honestly, it's a great question. And I personally think student should not just read but they should study for grades. At the end of the day has shortcuts really helped in the long run? The blunt answer is NO. I remember when I was in the university in my department precisely, my colleagues will feel very comfortable to cheat while others read and it began so bad that when results comes out these folks scored more grades than I did in most cases it was a nightmare. So just imagine aspiring to be the best graduating student in your department but when result comes out you see those who didn't work hard giving you a little or more gap in GPA and all that it's not something to enjoy but regardless you will continue pushing hard bc you know what you want at the end of the day.

Students must read for grades. That’s the only way they can pass. They must attend classes, read their books and pass their exams.
