A new era is beginning at the New York Military Academy as Sofia Macaluso was officially named the first Head Wrestling Coach of the new girls wrestling program!

Sofia has been a @nywomenswrestling trailblazer, while the Macaluso family has been steadfast in growing girls wrestling both locally here in New York State and nationally across the country.

There is no doubt that Sofia will build a powerhouse girls wrestling program right here within the confines of New York, as she continues to mold successful girls wrestlers. Congratulations to NYMA on an outstanding hire, and Sofia on the new role!

You can view our article and hear what Sofia has to say about the role at NYMA with the link below!

We are proud to officially welcome Sofia Macaluso as our new Women’s Head Coach. A true trailblazer and pioneer in women’s wrestling, she earned a World Silver Medal in 2022 and has competed on multiple world and national teams throughout her career.

We’re excited to have her join the NYMA Wrestling family, where she will lead and build our girls wrestling program. #nymawrestling #knights ⚔️ taken in New York Military Academy by @sofia_macaluso

Took 3rd at the Senior US Open! I’m very proud of myself for everything I’ve overcome this year. This represents more than just a place on the podium.

Huge thank you to my parents, @heathmacaluso & @nikki_macaluso for believing in me. Also my sister/wrestling partner/ built in best friend, @mia.macaluso for always being in my corner, and to Brian, my boyfriend, for your constant support. So much love to @westpointwrestlingclub , Spartan Combat, and Venom Girls Wrestling Club for pushing me every step of the way. A special thank you to @the_real_daddy_duke for preparing me for this new weight class, I have never felt stronger. But lastly, I couldn’t have done it without the support that everyone has shown me over the years. Another check off the bucket list✅
