PIERCE HEALY - Frankenstein ring, Memory Map rings, Pendants Wake, wonder, wander #1, Did you hear they found butterflies on Mars, Memory map 3 @piercehealystudio
Material: Silver

Pierce Healy can be found solving his world’s problems creating subversive jewellery and objects, often layered with intricate engravings. There is no “master plan”, each piece is an experiment driven by curiosity; a study that informs the next piece in perpetuity. He is fascinated by the capacity of jewellery to embody our stories and to facilitate storytelling. He believes jewels are portable altars, vessels for our most intimate secrets and stories to be protected, cherished and adored. In addition, he is interested in the idea that jewellery is our second skin, everyday armour that when worn becomes something bigger, something other worldly as it takes on the scratches, dings and stories of the wearer’s adventures. Visual incongruities make sense of the nonsense of the everyday and to question common values.

Fifteen Connections / Femton förbindelser is a group exhibition with fifteen jewellery artists from Sweden, Denmark and Norway, organized in collaboration between PLATINA Stockholm (curator Sofia Björkman), FORMAT Oslo (curators Irija Øwre and Kristin Mannino) and SPACIOUS COPENHAGEN (curator Annette Dam). The exhibition highlights both connections and contrasts, exploring how artists from three Nordic countries develop distinctive expressions and working methods while being part of a shared Nordic and global jewellery context.
The exhibition is a travelling exhibition that started in Stockholm during Stockholm Craft Week and runs until 24th of October.

VERONICA CHEANN – Søkerring (no 9, 4, 8, 6, 1) Materials: Silver, bronze, copper @vcheann

“The Søkerring rings series was conceived as part of the installation piece A Disquieting Landscape, inspired by the metaphysical art movement. These rings functioned as a viewfinders are to be worn outdoors to frame and capture scenery. Therefore, all the rings in the series have a threshold/window in it that one can see through between the fingers or above them. As such, they become instruments for looking, mediating perception. This idea is not unlike the use of Claude glass back in the days. By viewing landscapes through these rings, the jewellery does not only function as a signifier of the wearer’s self identity projecting to the outside world, it is also an apparatus to absorb the world in.”

MARIE-LOUISE KRISTENSEN - BIG BANG BOOM, Dancing with Tears in my Eyes, 5 Stars, BOOM
@marielouisekristensen
”I work within the narrative jewelry tradition, creating pieces based on a sculptural, three-dimensional approach that focuses intently on the object from every angle. By using symbols and recognizable details, I establish an immediate connection with the viewer, always prioritizing the creation of space for reflection, a space that emerges when the viewer draws close and begins to decipher the jewelry’s many layers, connecting the dots to form their own narratives.
I am driven to tell original stories, stories about finding hope amidst the despondency spreading within and around me in a world that currently seems to be losing its mind. I am convinced that (jewelry) art can help point toward alternatives and create space for reflection and new, surprising connections, both in the immediate, personal sphere and in the broader realm of human relationships.”

ISABEL WANG PONTOPPIDAN – CHINOISERIE II-IV
Rings, silver @isabelwangpontoppidan (photo Simon Nakamura)

”These pieces are part of ongoing research into the representation of Chinese aesthetics in the West. As a half-Chinese individual who has grown up predominantly in Europe, I have internalised an idea of China and Chineseness as mediated through a Western lens. Consuming these ideas has led me to relate intimately with objects and synthetic material, the stereotype of the Asian woman having ‘hair like silk, skin like porcelain’ reveals how she is perceived as part human, part object. As a response, this project adopts the Western European practice of chinoiserie: a decorative style used to describe objects made in imitation of Asian aesthetics, or ‘in the Chinese taste’. Despite being developed with an exaggerated exoticism for a European market in the 18th century, chinoiserie inhabits a distinctly hybrid space: it is, at once, Asian and European and both and neither. The rings are modelled after five pieces of Chinese porcelain from the Song Dynasty, a period in Chinese history that is considered a high-point of aesthetic and technical achievement. The Song Dynasty precedes large-scale commercial import of Chinese ceramics to Europe. ”

AMELI DÉVÉ
Braided necklaces and brooches in silver 999 and 925.
@amelideve
The exhibition Fifteen Connections / Femton förbindelser continues to the 24th of October.

”In my work, I explore jewellery as an interstitial practice between object, body and context. I am interested in how jewellery, within this field of tension, can articulate, shift and renegotiate existing readings. Bearing is a recurring theme, through which I metaphorically approach aspects of poise, weight, attachment, and tradition.
In my work with braiding techniques, I use established forms and structures as both starting points and points of resistance. By reconfiguring these, I explore the relationship between recognition and transformation. In a responsive engagement with the material, I test its tolerance and boundaries. Out of the encounter between material, form and resistance, a language emerges that I enter into dialogue with.”

LIN ROSENBECK – Between Containers
Materials: Coffe filters, aluminum, silver, steel
@linrosenbeck photo Sofie Hvitved

“Between Containers is the title of a series of brooches, in which a used coffee filter is brought into focus within a simple aluminium frame. Each filter refers to a specific day, a specific situation in life. In this sense, the series captures a trivial moment from everyday life, one of those moments we tend to throw away or let slip into oblivion. The unassuming contours of days marked by a conversation, a meeting we never quite understood, like a liquid we can never fully get hold of, disappearing down the funnel that is everyday life. Between Containers is a series of jewellery and, as such, not only an attempt to elevate these everyday situations through design, but also to take them upon ourselves and carry them with us.”

“When he roams the woods in search of mushrooms, Spillmann often encounters unexpected remnants of human activity such as abandoned coffee kettles, plastic fragments, tools, golf balls, ski poles, lighters, and shotgun shells. Exposure to weather, microorganisms, and the passage of time alters each surface differently, depending on the material from which it is made and the length of its stay in the forest. The objects carry stories of their own. By crafting these discarded artefacts of civilisation into brooches inspired by mushrooms, Spillmann gives them new form and context. Teak wood from a coffee table and zinc-plated iron sheets found at garbage dumps in the city are used to transform the objects into functional brooches without changing the material’s surface. “
