I treat white not as a neutral ground, but as a visual register of subtraction—fasting, silence, erasure and discipline. Queen of Tags (2026, 53 × 80 cm) is a visual portmanteau, bringing together Piero della Francesca’s Queen of Sheba and an urban wall. 72 Hours in Naples, 2026

As a rule, my trips away from Padua—whether I am travelling through Italy or crossing oceans—last no more than seventy-two hours. I have always felt that the less time one has at one’s disposal, the more intensely one inhabits a place.

This painting is dedicated to my most recent seventy-two hours in Naples, which, for me, can be distilled into the hundreds of small bronzes of street urchins in the manner of Vincenzo Gemito that I examined during an antiquarian inspection: a sculptural touch at once palpitating, vibrant and gleeful, which, after a while, begins to feel like a nightmare. taken in Braunsfelder by @sofiasilva.s

Meadow, 2026

Meadow is centred on the division between sky and earth, the most elementary structure of landscape representation, and on the way this division alone is enough to construct space. Yet this simplicity is unsettled by the appearance of a fragment of a face. Ci sarà pure qualcosa di me in questo quadro, 2026

When Braunsfelder invited me to conceive an exhibition for their space, the idea of presenting twenty previously unseen self-portraits — all painted over the course of three months 😂 — left little room for second thoughts. What I had not fully taken into account, however, was how exhausting it can be to think through one’s own identity, both within and beyond the fictionalisation of the self. I had always known, in truth, that it is far more beautiful — more ab-solute, more free — to play at losing it altogether: the authorial self.

By the seventeenth painting, I felt utterly drained — smonata, as one would say in Venetian dialect ✍🏼. Hence the title: Surely There Must Be Something of Me in This Painting? Fortunately, and contrary to some of the dominant schools of thought of our time, I have gradually come to believe that the artist — understood as a free individual, rather than as an ethical citizen — is more important than the work itself. The artwork is only the trace left by the encounter between a biography, situated within a particular historical moment, and a form. taken in Braunsfelder by @sofiasilva.s
