Things I learnt from Med School that you Must Know!🩺💪🏽

✅One of the most important advices I give to my mentees is to schedule their work AROUND their life and not the other way round.

We tend to overwhelm our schedules or to do lists with endless tasks and not even dedicate time for our rest and well being!

And little do we know that its rest and recovery that helps us be more productive!

Parkinson’s law states: work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.

It’s by setting deadlines that we become more efficient in our day to day tasks or assignments.

By setting deadlines and a hard stop in our days we GUARANTEE to have down time with ourselves and loved ones. It’s the quality of our relationships which brings out a good mental health.
Back when I started Medical school I used to be Burnt out all the time, and to be honest I used to study 24/7, sometimes 12+ hours a day, and tbh my grades didn’t even show the amount of hard work I put in my studies.

Through the last 3 years of med school, mentorship and self assessment I was able to develop a killer work ethic that allows me to study 4 hours a day and have a 4.0 GPA to the point I got a scholarship to study one semester in Austria! 🇦🇹

What Being the Youngest in the Room Taught Me ✨🗣️

When I first moved to Switzerland, I had only been learning German for 4 months. And to say I felt insecure would be an understatement.

My medical knowledge, practical skills, language skills… and with no previous work experience or real support system, meeting the expectations of nurses, midwives, and fellow doctors felt almost impossible.

And honestly? I sucked. 😂

But then I met doctors with an ACTUAL passion for their craft. Doctors whose eyes lit up when questions were asked. Doctors who valued teaching just as much as excellence.

And everything changed.

One doctor in particular, Dr. “ies” completely changed the way I saw Women’s Health. She taught me that accompanying women through their most vulnerable moments was more than a skill. It was a privilege.

She pushed me to study, attend congresses, ask questions, think critically, and most importantly, trust my own preparation.

Somewhere along the way, I stopped worrying about being the youngest in the room and started focusing on becoming the kind of doctor I looked up to.

Since then, I’ve found my passion in fetal-maternal medicine and prenatal screening.

Last weekend, I had the honour of attending the Annual Lugano Fetal Ultrasound Congress, directed by Prof. Dr. med. L. Raio, who I consider one of the most passionate and inspiring educators in our field.

And it reminded me once again how much the right mentors can shape the doctors we become🙏🏽

Good doctors treat. Great doctors teach, support, and inspire.

And I aim to be one of them. 🤍✨

3 Years ago I got Pregnant in Med School
motherhood looks a bunch of different ways, but this is how it looks and works for me.

My passion for Medicine and Woman Health will always be what makes me “Sofia”, and besides that I am also called “Mom”.

I thrive the most when i do what i love, and i love the most when i can be fully myself.

My little girl turns 3 today and showed me that it’s possible to combine both, my passion for Medicine and my love for her❤️ I thank God for giving me such a great partner and Dad for our little one.

If you’re a mom in Medicine know it’s possible to do both, and you’re not selfish for working in what you feel called to!
And if you’re a mom feeling called to Stay at Home know that you are equally as powerful and ought to admire!

Happy birthday Zoe❤️ I love you and learn from you more than words can explain.

Know you can achieve ANYTHING your heart desires.

Presenting my poster on prenatal Screening was a great opportunity! And attending the Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine Lectures ignited my passion for “Geburtshilfe” even more!
