Sofia gained 17kg after the birth and spent TWO YEARS trying to get it off on her own. Not through lack of effort. Through lack of a system that fit the life she actually lives.

Because Sofia is a Doctor. Real night shifts in a real hospital. In her very first week with me she flipped her entire sleep cycle from days to nights, trained twice through it, managed one meal a day, and still dropped half a kilo. Most people would have written that week off and said “I’ll start properly when things settle down.”

Things never settled down.

She had weeks where she lost two babies on shift and couldn’t face the gym.
Flu that put her in bed.
A fever that took another fortnight.
A knee that flared up.
A stretch of burnout in the summer where she messaged me honestly and said she didn’t know how to get out of the rut…

WHILST having a 3-year-old to look after.

She kept coming back. Every single time.

And here’s the bit I want you to really hear, because it’s the whole lesson:

The scale has only moved 4kg since November.
FOUR KILOS. But LOOK at the photos again.

That’s THREE trouser sizes gone.
That’s her hunting for a wedding dress and being shocked at the size on the label.
That’s her getting the nod of respect from the gym bros after a bench press.
That’s confidence at an all-time high after two years of feeling like her body wasn’t hers anymore.

That’s what happens when you protect your protein and keep lifting heavy while the fat comes off. You don’t just get smaller. You rebuild the whole thing underneath.

When everything around you feels heavy…

You build boundaries.
You trust your instincts.
You become your own safe place.

And slowly, you realize — resilience is not becoming cold.
It’s learning how to stand by yourself without losing yourself.

Because when you live alone, you eventually learn one important thing:
the relationship you have with yourself can either save you or destroy you.

An important truth to realize and something I’ve learned as I’ve had some time off after finishing residency.

The best thing you can do is realize how limited the quality time is that you have at home and maximize that.

As I’m deeper into my job search, I’m realizing how grateful I am for this time off and will always cherish it.
