So I have a bad habit of doing really cool things and not taking the time to celebrate my wins. So allow me to reintroduce myself:

My name is Sofia Irene Hernandez, PROUD❤️‍🔥 daughter of two resilient Mexicanos🇲🇽, founder of @lachingonacollab and passionate advocate for my communities✊🏽

I invite y’all to learn more about me, my journey through life’s ups and downs and how I’ve overcome them to become la ✨chingona✨ that I’ve claimed the power to be through learning, healing and thriving in this crazy lifetime.

I can’t explain the honor I feel to have been featured in @voyagehouston , my first ever written interview and it couldn’t have ever happened without my community’s support and love🥹💜

EXTRA special thank you to fellow chingona and bilingual therapist @gabywithoneb27 who recommended me for this interview! It’s friends and family like you who help remind me just who WE are💖

Thank you to the members in my community who have supported me along the way, especially the women in Houston who inspired me to take the first leap in giving life to my dreams and making La Chingona Collab a reality🫶🏽 This is only the beginning!

Thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes and especially those who took time out of their busy schedules to celebrate another year of life with me during my bday month!

🚨 HOUSTON — WE HAVE 1 MORE DAY TO HELP SAVE THE GARDEN OAKS THEATER. 🎬

The historic Garden Oaks Theater has a chance to come back to life — but if the money isn’t raised to buy the theater back into the community by August 31st, the current owner plans to demolish the theater and turn the property into yet another strip mall..

❤️@arthousehtx is leading the grassroots effort to save this piece of Houston history and was able to secure a contract extension through August 31st, giving our community one more shot to make this vision a reality.

-The 2.3-acre property could become a one-of-a-kind community arts & film center for Houston:

🎥 Film screenings + film festivals
🎭 Live performances
🎨 All-ages arts & filmmaking education
🤝 Coworking space for local arts organizations
🖼️ Exhibition space
☕️ A sidewalk bistro + bar
🛍️ Boutique shops
🌳 A place for neighbors, artists, filmmakers, families, and creatives to gather

🫵🏽YOU CAN HELP:
❤️‍🔥If you can donate — please do.
❤️‍🔥If you can’t — share this.
❤️‍🔥Tag your Houston friends. Send it to someone who loves old theaters, film, art, architecture, or this city.

🎬 LET’S BRING THE GARDEN OAKS THEATER BACK TO THE COMMUNITY✊🏽

Had such a great date at @gaspachoshtx w/ @sanninjoel ❤️‍🔥🥰

From the lively aesthetic & vibes, the different seating options and fast & friendly service, to the DELICIOUS food and drinks, Gaspachos was such a fun spot to hang out at 🥳

Literally ✨every single thing✨ we ate was so good & fresh, hands down, but I’ve added notes to my favs:
🍺Michelada Aguachile
🍹Margarita Flight- smooth, refreshing & the fruit on top is such a yummy treat😋
🥔Pambazo torta de chorizo y papas
🌽Elote con Asada- chef’s kiss 💋
🍟Mexifries- bruh 🤤🤤🤤
🌽Tostielote
🍉Watermelon Candy Shot

Located in Houston’s 5th Ward, Gaspacho’s newest location is right next to @meowwolfhouston which makes for perfect dinner & date plans🥰

Throwback to when @primitive.experience brought us together for such an amazing and spiritually healing experience at the end of Day 1 of Cine Cuauhtémc Pan American Film Festival in collab w/ @museoguadalupeaztlan at @houmediasource 🥹✨️

Thank you @primitive.meesh & @xipiliando as well as @unitywithmichelle & @goddessglowbirthing for leading this communal experience in which it felt like we were able to let go of all our worldly worries for a bit, let our spirits connect and allow our bodies to get lost to the beat of the drums🎶 I can't thank y'all enough for sharing your gifts with all of us, my heart is forever thankful and inspired by the experience 💖

And a HUGE thank you to @zapata_digital_studios for capturing these beautiful memories🔥 This is the 2nd time that Eddie's partnered with me to photograph a community event and it never fails to make me emotional to see the work he produces- to see your work thru the eyes of someone else is such a beautiful gift and experience in itself 🙏🏽 Make sure to check out his work & reach out to him for your photography and videography needs! More of Eddie's work to come soon✨️

🎬 SAVE THE DATE

Resistance Film Fest
🗓️ October 24–25
📍 MECA | Houston, TX

"Tu existencia es resistencia."🌵

✊🏽Resistance isn't only found in the streets- it lives in our stories, our art, our music, our traditions, and in the communities that continue to create despite every obstacle. It lives in every film that preserves our histories, every artist who shares their truth, and every person who chooses to show up for one another.

🥳Join us for a two-day celebration of Chicanx, Indigenous, Latinx, and BIPOC filmmakers, artists, educators, organizers, and cultural workers as we come together to celebrate the power of storytelling as an act of resistance.

💖By attending, you're doing more than supporting a film festival. You're investing in local filmmakers, artists, musicians, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations while helping build a stronger, more connected community rooted in culture, education, and collective action.

Because resistance takes many forms—and it's one of the reasons our cultures continue to thrive🔥

Save the date! More details coming soon👀

Hit up @sofie_hdz for graphic work✨️

Thank you to the filmmakers featured in the lineup, especially those of you and your crew members who came out to support and speak life and advice into all of us, especially the young minds who you’re inspiring every day by increasing BIPOC representation in media🤎✨

The second I found out @houstonlatinofilmfestival was hosting THE @cheechmarin I told my bf I was gonna make it my mission to speak to him and that’s exactly what I did! 🤩

Little me was shaking in her boots inside to be speaking to such inspiring legends and creatives in an auditorium full of people but I owe it to her to take all of the opportunities that the universe sends my way despite the fear and mistakes❤️‍🔥

💖Muchísismas gracias, Mr. Cheech for taking the time out of your busy life to share with us your story, jokes and knowledge with us here in Houston. You’re an inspiration to so many communities because of how you chose to live your life authentically! I’m forever grateful for the opportunity to receive some wisdom from you alongside our beautiful Latinx community🙏🏽

Next mission is to visit @thecheechcenter and witness his Chicano art collection in person! ✊🏽 Until then, I’ll keep hustling in this journey of life, working to increase awareness and representation for our beautiful communities just like the advocates that came before me & reminding myself that ✨my only limitation is my imagination✨

👀I’ve got big things coming for @lachingonacollab & @cinerootshtx so stay tuned!

And a big thank you to @sanninjoel @_findingmyguey and @violetaalvarezphoto for joining me & helping me capture this moment🥹🫶🏽

Celebrated 3 years w/my love at the one & only @vivamaximohouston 🇲🇽❤️‍🔥

What an honor to be able to indulge in the familiar foods of Mexico while also exploring new flavors and fusions! From the unique but nostalgic dishes, the refreshing drinks, the top tier service, and free flowing conversations with the bartenders and Chef himself, this experience will leave a lasting impression on me🥹

Born in San Luis Potosí, MX and now an extremely talented but humble chef in Houston, TX @chefadrian7717 is an inspiration for DACA recipients and all of us who strive to highlight and preserve our history and traditions through our work✨

Shout out to my foodie & activist friend @cesar_espinosa for the recommendation 💯
