Very sad to share the passing of Peter Stut, a Dutch designer, architect and artist, early last month. He was a long term lecturer for Ruimtelijke Vormgeving (spatial design) at the Minerva art academy in Groningen. With his multidisciplinary approach and unique views, he has inspired and helped numerous designers and architects in the Netherlands. Peter Stut began his career in the Philips CIDC division, where he was employed from 1965 to 1977. There he designed the renowned HR 6240 vacuum cleaner line. It was the first vacuum cleaner made entirely of plastic, featuring many innovations and design elements. A brand-new manufacturing plant was built for it in Hoogeveen, close to Groningen. The design drew inspiration from the "Wild cat thinking" CICD project in 1973. Another remarkable creation by Peter was the "Composite Living Room“. A concept envisioning an integrated living room and kitchen. The "Thermal Unit" was designed for cooking and baking, whereas the "Power Unit" was utilized to integrate various devices through a central motor. It was part of the CIDC submission for a design contest for the 1970 World Expo in Osaka, Japan.
