This dress was originally held up by a neck tie attached to the back, but the tension was pulling the lower back of the dress in a way that created an awkward gap. After cutting the back strap to release that tension and pinned a couple back darts, the fit finally fell into place

but I felt like the back still needed 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨..

So I had the idea to add a jewelry detail to the back tie, letting it drape down her back. I sourced a stone that complemented the dress and brought the idea to life!

The client loved it, and honestly, these are some of my favorite moments in tailoring: when solving a fit issue opens the door to something unexpected. 🤍 taken in Raleigh, North Carolina by @softedit.tailoring

The first wedding dress I had the pleasure of altering as Soft Edit, making it a particularly special milestone for me.

To have a small hand in preparing a dress for a day someone has dreamed about is an honor.

You think you’re doing one alteration, ha! think again!

Here I am adjusting the bust darts and taking in the side seams from sleeve to hem…sounds simple, right? except shorting the bust darts pulls fabric up vertically & slightly inwards 🫠 so the hem didn’t hang level anymore(you see it in the video)so we just add a hem to the mix.

A lil behind-the-scenes moment

Most of my work happens quietly, in living rooms, closets, and private fitting spaces— where comfort, trust, and attention to detail create a seamless experience

For this appointment I worked alongside @melissadeleonstyling , Melissa curated a seasonal wardrobe while I tailored each selected piece on-site, refining the fit and making thoughtful adjustments along the way

Some of my favorite parts of this work is— the vision, the details, and the feelings. It all comes together so beautifully.

The right length depends on your height, proportions, posture, shoes, how you wear the garment, and even subtle asymmetries that most people don’t notice..

The fitting is where all of those details are considered. It’s where we test, adjust, pin, and refine until the garment works for 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 body and 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 preferences.

Before the sewing begins, we take the time to understand the garment, and you.

So glad I finally got to work on a suit jacket that has functioning buttonholes so I can explain why the alteration does not look the same as a normal jacket alt.

If you work with me, you know how much of a perfectionist I can be- this is one of the alterations where I just have to let that go 🫠

Also- functioning buttonholes or “surgeons cuffs” is usually something you see in a bespoke/MTM suit for this reason- it’s challenging to alter the cuffs in a way that looks exactly original.

✨ Spent the loveliest days with @annhowellbullard and her latest collection. Every detail felt effortlessly chic- the kind of beauty that doesn’t try too hard because it simply doesn’t have to. ✨
