AMEC 2026 — Bridging Generations with Hope 🤍

From enriching conversations with future colleagues and mentors, to representing Region IX, to seeing the impact of the work we’ve built this year come full circle… this was more than a conference. It was confirmation.

Testimony:

I was first introduced to SNMA in undergrad, where I had the privilege of serving as the inaugural MAPS liaison at umd to help reactivate us. Our chapter would go on to become MAPS Chapter of the Year in 2022.

During my time on the umd executive board, I found the courage to apply for the president position… and I didn’t get it.

After a season of reflection and prayer, I asked God, if it was in His will, to grow me into the leader I longed to become. I specifically prayed that, if admitted to attend medical school, He would grant me the chance to serve as chapter president.

That prayer was answered. I stepped into that role not only proud of my growth, but deeply aware of His faithfulness.

Running for Regional Director was never part of my plan. I hadn’t even considered it until I got a text from Bri. I remember thinking “Lord, what is this? There’s no way…”

But in that moment, I felt seen.

In a season where I was still wrestling with confidence in my identity in Christ, I realized that God was gently affirming me, that my leadership journey was only just beginning, and that His plans were far greater than anything I could have imagined for myself.

Now, 1 year later, I feel nothing but gratitude. This journey has stretched me, refined me, and drawn me closer to Him while surrounding me with some of the most excellent and inspiring leaders I’ve encountered.

“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” — Psalm 37:4

I’ve come to understand that this promise is not about receiving everything we want but about transformation. As we delight in Him, our desires begin to align with His will. And in that alignment, we find true fulfillment. #amec2026 taken in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by @sohlive_

and like that…first year of med school is over 🥹

Pulm/renal was a beasstt, especially considering how busy things got with graduations, birthdays, and everything in between.
Nevertheless, God is beyond good because I passed every. single. exam.

I was extra nervous about the cumulative final as I didn’t feel I had enough time to prepare how I would’ve liked but that’s all behind me now 😅🙌🏽 simply feeling extremely blessed and grateful for the new friends made and the time spent with old friends and family 🫶🏽 my heart is full! I can genuinely say that despite the stress of exam weeks, I actually enjoyed M1 🤭

For M2 year, I want to prioritize my personal wellbeing as we prepare to step into dedicated 😏…this will likely look like spending more time in the Word, praying, and journaling ✨

Thank you to everyone who made this year so incredible, it’s only up from here 🔝

⚓️verse: In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

In collaboration with @amwapremed, here are some of my premed ~summer~ recs ☺️

—

Shadow Healthcare Professionals ➡️ if you don’t or haven’t worked in a healthcare setting, this is necessary to gain exposure to different specialties & understand the day-to-day responsibilities of a physician. I’m still doing this as a medical student bc there’s a lot grey’s anatomy doesn’t show 🤭

Volunteer or work ➡️ this doesn’t have to be in a healthcare setting, unless you don’t have any clinical experience. I enjoyed working as a stem camp counselor during the summers (until 2020). I worked as a science teacher and volunteered as an EMT during my gap years! Both taught me a lot about the type of physician I hope to become.

Seek out Research Opportunities ➡️ I wasn’t super research oriented in undergrad, but if there’s anything I could do differently, it’s seeking out more research opportunities aligned with my interests! I think this would’ve given me some great experience, even if I didn’t end up with a publication. This is definitely a boost to your application but not required (depending on where you’re interested in matriculating)

Prepare for the MCAT ➡️ I started studying for the MCAT during summer 2020 and took it in March! I felt it gave me enough time to review and take enough full-length tests! I loved being able to only focus on the MCAT because it became much harder to do so during the semesters.

SELF CARE ➡️ While it's important to be productive, don't forget to prioritize self-care during summer break. Take time to recharge, engage in activities you enjoy, and maintain a healthy work-life balance to avoid burnout 🥳

better late than never 🙌🏽

A mini recap of how my cardiology block went!
I actually enjoyed most of cardio and had fun throughout the block. We then had 2 weeks of ‘physicianship’ where we refined our cardiac and pulmonary exam skills AND learned how to give an oral presentation 😅
Things are moving so fast…cannot believe M1 year is almost over — trying to soak up every moment, including the highs and the lows!
Onto pulm and renal to end the year🙆🏾‍♀️

One of my favorite highlights of medical school so far 🙆🏾‍♀️

—

I had the pleasure of being invited to attend career day at the charter school where I taught these past 2 years. I reached out to students from @njms_snma (gotta love snma🥹) & three M4s gracefully accepted to come speak with students about their career path! My former scholars learned about anesthesia, neonatology, and emergency medicine as well as the timeline to residency. They had AMAZING questions to ask and showed such enthusiasm for exploring the field of medicine! I was so excited for them to see representation in these areas of medicine, which is one of my pillars as an aspiring doctor!
Also, so grateful for the staff and leadership for their continued support and encouragement 🫶🏽

”A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.“
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭17‬:‭22‬ ‭ESV‬‬

A little late but we completed our foundational block almost a month ago & all I can say is thank God it’s over (but not really iykyk) 😅 overall giving it a 6/10…but maybe that’ll change with future blocks. My favorite unit was definitely immunology (vs. anatomy & microbiology).
During this 2nd half, I took on more responsibilities and had to adjust to the changes to my schedule which was honestly the biggest challenge considering how studying is in medical school! While having more commitments can be overwhelming, I feel like it’s made me more intentional about how to manage my time which adds structure to my days & I end up being more productive. Still trying to get better at including more wellness activities tho (currently reading more ☺️). Major s/o to the gym girlies lol ima get there too!

We’ve started our metabolism & cardiovascular block & the metabolic processes have been pretty interesting considering I can relate to having some vitamin/mineral deficiencies…but its a lot 😵‍💫
Stay tuned for more updates 🤗

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Had to change the scenery for a mood boost! @cafehasbrouckheights brought the vibes I was looking for including great coffee, food, and music 🤌🏽

I didn’t think anything could beat the beast that anatomy was but med school never ceases to surprise me 🤣
Microbiology has been a lot to conquer and I felt very overwhelmed this past weekend, a combo of feeling under the weather & stress.
>1000 cards studied (+ some practice Qs) but at this point I’ve learned to accept that while I may not know every detail, I’ll know enough to understand and pass 🥂

What has been really challenging is being aware that we have 2 exams at the end of the month; a unit cumulative final & our first semester (formative) cumulative exam bc our school is committing to our preparedness for STEP I. 🙂

I rlly struggled to get back in the groove of things after break but love coming on here and seeing so many successful students and professionals—it gives me so much faith for where I can end up 🙏🏽

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

*long vulnerable caption*

This is probably my first time ever sharing this but when I started college, I wasn’t at all prepared for what it would require of me, especially mentally and emotionally.
All the excitement quickly faded when I realized I was in a new state, at a huge school, without my family. I’m already small but noticed myself losing weight and my social anxiety getting worse. I was in a toxic relationship and by the end of my first semester, I could barely recognize myself.

During winter break, I reflected & drafted up a game plan for the bounce back. I didn’t really have a relationship with God at the time but when I started spending time with Him, He clearly revealed His purpose in allowing me to go through that season of trial. I had to fail to gain the wisdom and tools that would later equip me for success. This set me up to understand the importance of taking risks, even when afraid.

I almost gave up on medicine but my parents reminded me of how long it had been my dream, my advisor told me he would be there to guide me through re-building my gpa, and I found my motivation. I agreed to do the work and lay the rest in His hands. Bold prayers were made, full of faith and at times some anxiety, too. From 2nd semester forward, I focused on improving my grades (I made dean’s list each semester) and building my identity which I later understood was to be rooted in God.

I share this testimony to encourage those who may come across my page and feel as I did all those years ago…people say it all the time but don’t give up despite the challenges bc when it’s God’s will, not only will you make it through as He promises, but you will be transformed for the better. ❤️🙏🏽

happy new year 🎉

—

can’t enter this new year without acknowledging one of my biggest highlights of 2023…my 2nd year of teaching & the end of my tfa journey!
Despite being an incredibly challenging year, it gave me a glimpse of what I can do when I stop fear from holding me back! God honored His promises, per usual! 🥹

While there were some setbacks, my time in the classroom culminated in amazing bonds with my students, parents and other teachers as well as an established soccer team, selection for tfa alumni induction keynote speaker (my first ever!) and a nj standard teaching license! 🥳

Feeling nostalgic as I post this but I will forever be passionate about education (and a teacher at heart) ☺️🫶🏽

cheers to 2024 and more fearless endeavors 🥂 taken in New Jersey by @sohlive_
