We cherish the long-term relationships we’ve built with our professional clients — architects, designers, and makers who share our belief that great design grows from trust and shared values.

Our latest article, 'Shaping Space in Timber: The Architecture of McLean Quinlan', explores how collaboration and a deep respect for natural materials shape spaces that endure, in beauty, performance, and purpose.

Read more about the dialogue between architecture and timber, and our shared appreciation for craftsmanship with @McLeanQuinlan - find the link in our bio.

Oak, from the ground up.

In the homes of @mcleanquinlan, oak doesn't stop at the floor. Over years of working together, the studio has used our timbers to climb walls, wrap staircases and stretch across ceilings, turning a humble piece of oak into an architectural language.

In Kent Downs, Landmark Saltram, a light oak with a white oil finish, climbs from the floor to the walls and pitched ceiling above the kitchen, drawing the eye upwards.

At Polzeath House on the North Cornwall coast, Landmark Dyrham wraps the hallway and staircase in calm, enveloping grain.

Oak takes up to a century to grow. Used like this, it shapes the mood, acoustics and feel of a home for generations to come.

Head to our Journal to read the full story.

When timber climbs the walls.

Used as wall cladding, timber brings warmth and texture to a space in a way few materials can. It softens clean lines, adds depth and turns a plain wall into a defining feature.

Haven Padstow is a rustic, characterful oak with a light base and rich cognac tones. Its mixed-width boards create a natural rhythm across the surface, and the subtle shifts in grain and colour catch the light throughout the day.

Swipe to the last image to see Padstow in a herringbone format for a welcoming, classic parquet floor.

One material, from floor to stair.

When the staircase is made from the same timber as the floor, the interior reads as one. Abbey Whitby, a characterful engineered floor with a reclaimed oak top layer, runs across the floors and continues up every tread and riser. Rounded nosings from matching solid oak create an elegant detail.

Moving from room to landing and from one level to the next, nothing breaks the flow.

Get in touch if you’re working on a project that needs a matching staircase.

We have more than 25 years of experience in crafting floors and cladding stairs for architects, designers, developers and private clients.

Flooring with a sense of history.

Aged timber brings depth, texture and character to an interior. Its natural variation, worn surfaces and irregular details create visual interest without relying on colour alone.

In a historic building, it can reinforce the architecture. In a contemporary interior, it can create contrast and tension — think sculptural chrome against weathered oak — adding warmth and material richness to cleaner, more precise spaces.

From genuine reclaimed oak to weathered, distressed and historically inspired finishes, there are many ways to create a floor that feels as though it has a story to tell.

Like all timber floors, these are best experienced in person. Plan a visit to one of our showrooms to see the texture, patina and character at full scale. Or get in touch to receive a small hand sample.

Something we hear again and again in the showroom:

“I’ve seen so many timber floors that look artificial.”

Then they see ours — and the relief is often immediate.

After nearly 30 years of working with timber, we know that a natural-looking floor is about more than getting the right colour.

We work with the timber itself: brushing and tumbling the surface, using smoking and tannin processes to develop the colour, and bringing out the grain and tonal variation within each board.

The result is flooring with depth and tactility that feels inherent to the timber. You see more variation, more texture and more of the character that makes wood so appealing.

If you’re looking at timber flooring this weekend, come and see the difference for yourself.

Our WEST London showroom in Marylebone is open as usual this Saturday, 10.30–5.

Have a great start to the weekend.

Designed for a surfing family, The Cornwall Retreat combines the practicalities of family life with a strong connection to its dramatic coastal setting.

The interiors are relaxed but considered, with durable natural materials used throughout and spaces designed to connect easily with one another.

From the open living areas to the surf room and generous circulation spaces, the design is shaped around the realities of family life.

Tate Bute oak - swipe to the last image - adds to that feeling. Its naturally weathered character means the floor feels at home from the outset, rather than something that needs to be kept pristine.

A house shaped around the way its owners live, rather than simply how it looks.

Light, bright oak brings continuity to this Westminster apartment, with the floor changing pattern to suit each space.

The circular room called for something more bespoke. The design was carefully planned out, each plank cut and laid piece by piece to follow the geometry of the room.

The kind of installation that demands experience, precision and a very skilled eye.The result looks effortless, but the craftsmanship behind it is anything but.

If you have an architectural flooring project, no matter how challenging, do get in touch.

At The Cornwall Retreat, the architecture is deliberately restrained.

Simple gabled forms, natural materials and carefully framed views allow the coastal setting to remain an important part of the experience.

Inside, the same approach continues. There is little unnecessary decoration, with texture, proportion and material doing much of the work.

Wide bandsawn oak boards, timber-lined ceilings, clay finishes and natural stone create a quietly layered interior without competing for attention.

It’s a reminder that restraint can be just as powerful as statement-making design. Read more on our Journal.

The best interiors tell a story.

An aged oak floor adds history from the moment it is laid, bringing texture, warmth and a lived-in quality that makes a space feel instantly established.

And it doesn’t need to be a period property. Aged oak can sit just as naturally in a contemporary home, a country cottage or a Victorian townhouse, adding depth and character to each in a different way.
