The MADO gallery at ISSEY MIYAKE / NEW YORK is pleased to present an installation by Solid Objectives Idenburg Liu at 45 Madison Avenue. Featured throughout the store will be a selection of SO–IL’s Frame Series furniture. The Frames Series furniture are social structures, not so much conventional objects but drawings in space and experiments in collectivity.⁣
⁣
Installed in the MADO gallery is an immersive video essay featuring numerous marquee projects designed by SO–IL including Kukje Gallery, Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, Amant, Common Thread, and Necto among others. Close-up shots explore the texture and material innovation present in these built projects.⁣
⁣
The installation will be on view through October 26, 2026. SO–IL and ISSEY MIYAKE / NEW YORK would like to thank @friedman_benda for their support in loaning the Frame Series furniture. Photography by @n_kubota by @solidobjectives

𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗰𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰-𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝗶 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 (2019)
SO–IL, East Marion, New York, USA

A sensitive project by one of this century’s most influential American practices, the Duravcevic-Ben Ari House occupies a 20-acre plot—described by SO–IL (@solidobjectives) as “a collage of disparate landscapes”—on the northern side of Long Island’s bifurcated eastern extremity. Responding to this context, the architects set four gable volumes in a cruciform arrangement around a central courtyard, with each wing offering a different view on the surrounding woodland. Glass, timber, and metal enclose the structure, while the deep eaves of the zinc-clad roof form long verandas.

“We are trying to create a visitor experience that’s greater than the sum of its parts,” Art Omi Pavilions founder Francis Greenburger said in his recent @artnet article. “Each of the pavilion sponsors will attract people who know about them, but then will lead to a cross-fertilization among all the exhibitors, which is the idea.”

The Pavilions proposes a different model for how art can be experienced over time - one in which artists and collectors retain greater agency than in traditional exhibition formats. Rather than dispersing works across institutions, The Pavilions creates dedicated environments for bodies of work to be experienced with greater continuity and context. #artomipavilions Rendering: Solid Objectives Idenburg Liu (SO–IL) taken in Chatham, New York by @solidobjectives

“It’s a joy to see time in architecture.” — 𝗝𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝘂/𝗦𝗢–𝗜𝗟

For @isseymiyake’s new NYC flagship at 45 Madison Avenue, @solidobjectives transform a giant space inside the Met New York Life Building into something precise and theatrical.

Succeeding the brand’s 25-year-old Tribeca store designed by Frank Gehry in 2001, SO–IL’s Jing Liu and @florianidenburg revisit the codes of Miyake-san — movement, material, shadow, and the body — while allowing the clothes themselves, rather than the architecture that surrounds them, to carry the drama.

What happens when a construction system is rethought midway through a project?
In this instalment of Building Stories, Jing Liu @ahappyview co-founder together with @florianidenburg of @solidobjectives reflects on the making of Las Américas, a project whose construction process evolved in response to unforeseen challenges and opportunities. As the realities of building unfolded, the team was forced to reconsider established methods, adapting the system along the way.
From technical constraints and on-site discoveries to collaboration and problem-solving, SO–IL shares how the project developed through a continuous dialogue between design and construction.
Featuring reflections on innovation, adaptation, construction and architectural process.

Mass timber construction is underway as the new home for the Williams College Museum of Art takes shape and we recently celebrated the topping off. @iwanbaan visited to document the innovative double-curved timber structure. Collaborating with our partners @perrydeanrogers, structural engineers from @fastepp, @consigliconstruction, and the pioneering mass timber fabricator @nordic_structures, we commend @williamsartmuseum and @williamscollege for their dedication to excellence. This project reinforces Williams College’s commitment to the arts.

Scheduled to open in fall 2027, the new WCMA building will host 11 galleries, multiple classrooms, a spacious auditorium, and a welcoming cafe, creating a vibrant cultural hub for the community. taken in Williams College by @solidobjectives

We are thrilled to share that our office designed the new @isseymiyakeofficial flagship store at 45 Madison Avenue in New York City, which opens to the public on May 8th. Located on the ground floor of the iconic Cass Gilbert-designed New York Life Building, at the corner of Madison Avenue and 26th Street overlooking Madison Square Park, the new flagship spans 13,000 square feet of retail space. This project holds significant meaning for our team as we have long admired the brand's collaborations with artists, dancers, and architects. by @solidobjectives

Seoul Guide curated by Thisispaper

Architecture in Seoul — where traditional Korean courtyard houses exist alongside hyper-modern cultural centres. Cafés built inside renovated hanok, concrete towers rising from narrow hillside lots, and a generation of Korean architects defining a new architectural identity.

Urban presence — photo courtesy @valfl24 / architect: @solidobjectives / building: 144 Vanderbilt introduces a bold residential identity to Brooklyn through color, texture, and massing.

The building is composed as a series of stacked volumes, expressed through precast, pigmented concrete panels in varying sizes. This modular assembly creates a dynamic façade that reads as a vertical composition of interlocking blocks rather than a single monolithic mass.

Its distinctive pink tone gives the project a strong urban presence while softening the heaviness typically associated with concrete. Subtle shifts in volume generate terraces, recesses, and depth—enhancing light, views, and spatial variety for residents.

Responding to its context along Myrtle Avenue, the building rises asymmetrically, reinforcing the perception of upward movement and layered construction. The result is a contemporary reinterpretation of masonry—where color and prefabrication redefine residential architecture.
