OVERLOOKED BEAUTY

Garden eels are often overlooked because they immediately go into their holes when a diver approaches. It takes patience and time to get close to them. But if you do, they reveal their beauty. Love them 😍

Underwater Photography Workshop

Today, we had a few guest listeners join us! The workshop itself is capped at a maximum of 8 photographers to ensure everyone receives plenty of dedicated time, answers to their questions, and tailored support, no matter their skill level.

Patrick is currently hosting one of his famous workshops, and the most-asked question is how to create great slow-shutter images.

It's a vast topic with many different techniques. This example isn't easy, but it's not the most difficult approach either, since it doesn't require a snoot on the strobe.

Here, you just need to find the right subject, blast it with light, and add a suitable camera movement.

OBSERVE MORE. DISTURB LESS.

Underwater, some of the strongest moments are the ones we allow to unfold naturally. Slow down. Read the animal's behaviour. Give the subject space and allow the encounter to develop without interference. REAL FOCUS asks photographers to place the welfare of marine life before the photograph. The image matters, but so does the way it was made.

Create thoughtfully, observe carefully and make every frame meaningful.

HABITAT

Sometimes it is nice to include the animal's habitat in the photo.

This Pikachu nudibranch is perched on a colony of bryozoans (moss animals), presumably of the genus Bugula.

These fan-like or tree-like structures are of vital importance to the Pikachu nudibranch (Thecacera pacifica):

Food source:
These sea slugs are highly specialized predators that feed almost exclusively on these bryozoans.

Habitat & protection:
The complex branches provide the small creatures with protection from predators while serving as a substrate for laying their eggs.

Camouflage:
Despite its striking markings, the sea slug is often difficult to spot among the delicate structures of the bryozoans.

Yes, we will pick you up from the airport; no worries at all!

Both airport transfers are included in your stay. Upon arrival, a member of our front office team will greet you with a nameboard, offer you a welcome snack and something to drink, and bring you directly to the resort. Once you arrive, a fresh coconut will be waiting for you, followed by a welcome briefing where we can answer any remaining questions you might have. From there, your holiday officially begins!

HOW DO YOU REMEMBER A DIVE?

Are your dive memories entirely digital, or do you still keep a physical dive log?

For many divers, the habit of filling in a log after every dive has quietly slipped away. Yet there is something distinctly personal about a dive diary: the boat stamps, hurried notes, small sketches and well-worn pages that can bring a dive back years later.

Every dive can also contribute more than a memory or an image.

For REAL FOCUS 2027, entrants will record the species observed, abundance, dive site, date, depth and water temperature. Together, these details continue the three-year baseline and give each photograph useful scientific context.

The image captures the moment. The data helps us understand it.
