I’ve made a jumpsuit. I know I’ve mentioned before that I love the look of a one piece but dislike stripping down for bathroom breaks but I’ve decided that in warm weather it’s really not so bad.
This is an ancient McCalls pattern that I modified. The original had integrated short sleeves with ties and accompanying complicated facings including the front button placket so I had to make my own facings for a sleeveless version. I also slimmed down the legs. I added patch pockets instead of the inseam ones- and a good thing too, considering the mods. I wanted to capture the beautiful sunset over Lake Ontario, which stole the show. And that’s okay, but I took a quick photo at home to show the details in better light. It’s the shoulder season; still summer but with a few cooler mornings and evenings giving an occasional taste of things to come. I’m presenting this for #sagamseasonseptember hosted by @suestoney @sewing_in_spain and @whendy7 September really is its own season and it’s my favourite. This blue crinkle cotton was stash from my erstwhile Thrift store, still coming through for me. Probably my favourite Pantone colour too, although all blues vie for the position. taken in Lake Ontario, Canada by @solizziesews

Hello- it’s been a minute! I was all set to cut out some Capri pants when I had a little accident with one of my most worn summer dresses, a big tear on the back skirt of my #hinterlanddress. So I got out one of my stash fabrics, a duvet cover with a whimsical seaside theme.. Taking it apart I realised someone had sewn together two sheets to make it a cover, with what I think was a genius side opening with zip. I saved the zipper and recreated the dress ( my 4th or 5th?) I did edit the shoulder straps to make them a bit thinner for my narrow shoulders.
Shown seated because it’s Friday #fashiononthesofafriday
But I wasn’t ready to give up the green version so I cut off the torn skirt and made a peplum top (original Luna moth I embroidered on the back). And a reminder photo of the original. There is also a sneak peek of the fabric for the last ( ?) summer project . It looks like I’m sewing again 😊 by @solizziesews

Is it just me or have others had enough/ are bored of, trying to photograph yourselves? Maybe just me. At least the light is coming back. I may resort to ye olde hanger shot to document my sewing…. But today here I am with another pair of trousers, same pattern as the last pair. I found this baby cord in my stash that I intended to make a jacket out of. However I didn’t have nearly enough of this fabric ( the old thrift store stash STILL going strong ) I did just squeeze these pants out of it , even allowing for nap. I used a button closure for the fly on these as you can see. I also added back pockets again but you don’t really need to see a shot of my backside… so moving right along. I am standing beside my jars of freshly made lotion for extra visual interest/ distraction šŸ˜‚ I’ve been making my own natural soap, lotion, deodorant and laundry soap for over 15 years. Often worn cosy me-made sweater makes an appearance again. It’s really still too cold for this light baby cord so I’m including this as the 3rd unseasonal sew. by @solizziesews

And here we are. A little playing around with an idea. The second ā€œscrapā€ from the quilt scrap bag and the second out of season sewing. Since I haven’t any seasonal sewing I may carry on this way until the projects become season appropriate and then my warm weather sewing list will be done.
I had an idea for a shirt and then started searching through my patterns to see what I had that could work.
I came upon an old thrifted Simplicity pattern. Simplicity patterns tend to run big so although I was in between sizes and usually go larger, this time I chose the smaller size.
The pattern is actually for a housecoat, cropped obviously but the shape gave me the vibe I was after. So did making covered buttons.
I wanted cuffs as well as sleeves are not finished without them.
So is it a blouse or maybe a shacket. Maybe both.
I was also thinking of this top my mom is wearing here as inspiration but keeping it simple as this is a print, and I hardly wear prints. I wish there were kittens to hold, like my mom had in her arms …or to put in the pockets…. This reminds me of when I was once on volunteer nursery duty at a Humane Society, bottle feeding tiny little kittens. I did consider they would fit very well in a pocket to sneak home.
So in the end, a simple shirt on a very cold day. by @solizziesews

#fashiononthesofafriday or …silliness on the chair. I’m wearing the cosy clothes today, as it’s -10° ( feels like -22°) and it’s only getting colder -18° Hey ho! So it’s my new cords, handmade socks, my sweater with the vintage Eatons wool that just gets better and better, (I want more of it!) with another rtw sweater underneath and a long scarf I made years ago. Also I couldn’t decide on the mug with hot beverage, current sock knitting or baking aĢ€ la @whendy7 ( fresh sourdough) as photo accompaniment so I included them all- I just didn’t have enough hands. You can also see a scrappy blanket behind me, and a little bit of quilt. Funny story about the scarf. We were driving down the highway/ freeway one Christmas many years ago and I got a little warm in the car so I unzipped my coat, took off the matching hat and undid the scarf, cracking the window open a bit. Well the scarf flew out the window! We had to stop the car and I ran quite a ways back to rescue it.

So here I am, beginning of January, thinking I’ll finally crack open the bag(s) of scraps I’ve been saving for a quilt. Spoiler alert: it will be blue šŸ˜‰ It will indeed be very slow going as it took a long time just to sort and iron all the bits and pieces. I started cutting a few, also time consuming because they were in fact, just small odd shaped pieces that I am cutting squares from. You won’t be seeing a completed quilt any time soon. Exhale the bated breath!😊
But anyhow, when I was sorting I found two good sized pieces of fabric . Sewists know ā€œgood sizedā€ means: I can make something with this!
And so I did. With the first one anyway, which is a heavy weight cotton. These trousers have a print that will be more at home in the spring but I’ve paired it with a winter make here, my Sherpa #toastersweater because it is freezing today. I’m very pleased I even managed enough light inside to photograph them so I didn’t have to brave the elements on the porch. 🄶
On the back pocket, I put a cheeky label ( #sorrynotsorry which I cut from the selvedge. It’s the name of the print.
The pattern is Lisette B6331. I’ve made them once before. No mods other than adding the back pockets.

#sagamdenimdecember Do I get extra points for 2 upcycles/ refashions?
And also another post this December- who am I? šŸ˜‚
The first photo: This skirt is from my denim version of the #camilledress by @specksandkeepings . I loved my first Camille and wanted a heavier weight version so I made one this one a few years ago but alas, wearing it a few times I realised the denim was not going to soften enough to make gathering it in to tie it completely comfortable to wear.
What to do? I bit the bullet and cut off the top ā€œbibsā€ to make a skirt. I didn’t want a traditional waistband . I made two more pleats at the back to go with the large centre one and in the front I made smaller pleats to take in the volume. A side zipper was installed. I wanted to keep the ties but now they are just a feature and not necessary to cinch everything in.
I wore it on Christmas Day and noticed I needed some belt loops to keep the ties from slipping above my waist. I’m so happy I could still wear this design in a modified way. Cont: šŸ‘‡ by @solizziesews

Immediately after finishing my last sweater I cast on for this one, the #autumnleaguepullover by @twoofwands so I went from fingering weight wool to bulky. This is #cascadeyarns Ecological Wool, leftovers over from making a jacket for my son years ago ( last photo) Because it was leftover wool, I chose a top down pattern, finished the neckband early on and estimated how far the black would go for the sleeves as well. I always intended it to be cropped though. I also have a heathered brown from my daughter’s version and considered colour blocking with 3 colours but in the end I decided on just the two colours. Then I had fun trying it on with different trousers, the #arthurpants by @specksandkeepings and @sewliberated and then a mystery pattern from the thrift. I’m thinking my black jeans will get worn with it the most. And yes that is ice on the glass behind me. ā„ļø by @solizziesews

Well that was a marathon of knitting. With some cords to match.
I started this pattern, Marie Wallin’s Lovage, in the summer but I was also busy packing up house to move. And then when cool nights set in, someone thought that I should be doing some snuggling and on warm wool, usually settling in right on my hands while I was knitting! The pattern calls for many colours and I had a lot of cones of wool from my favourite thrift store ( which is now 2 hours away 😢) but I ended up just using 4 colours and I was winging each chart as I went along. There was a fair amount of ripping back when I wasn’t satisfied with how the colours were playing out. The pants are a Simplicity pattern, also thrifted as is the corduroy. The fabric was originally white and when I dyed a dress in sage green a while ago I put this fabric in the dye pod afterwards- it came out pale blue! All well and good but it was a bit uneven. So I thought it could be used as a toile for the pattern- pants are a notoriously hard fit for me. The pattern required much tweaking but I got to a point where I was satisfied enough to wear them, even though it isn’t exactly a perfect fit. So then I had to dye them again to even the colour out. It’s a dark end of a dark, rainy November day ( when daughter finally brought my selfie stick home ) and here we are 😊 At least now I know where the best light is in the back yard. by @solizziesews

After many months sewing ā€œvacationā€ I actually made something. I wanted to post on Halloween and wanted my black kitty in the bag for the photo. However, he viewed the whole idea with deep scepticism and this is all I could manage to entice him to do. This is the One Yard tote pattern from SewCanShe free sewing patterns for beginners. It’s lined and I made a pocket for my water bottle. The fabric is a gifted from @librarianka Dorota from last Christmas šŸ˜… She knows I love cats and admired the fabric. There is enough fabric left for a pouch or two but let’s not get crazy right now. šŸ˜‚ by @solizziesews

Hello! Long time no see. I thought once my studio tour was over I’d get into some fun summer sewing, sundresses, short sets! But the universe had other ideas and we are moving house. I actually managed two quick(ish) sews between sorting and packing boxes - my new and thankfully temporary hobby. I’ve wanted some more cropped tops for some time and particularly to go with my #aprilskirt by @specksandkeepings so I chose my go-to #thearachelleraglan . Shown here in the windy and non windy version . It was a bonus that it also matched a pair of older Capri pants I had.
Project two was making slipcovers for our two slipper chairs, as the last ones were looking ragged. I found a bolt of upholstery fabric ( at my soon-to-be too far away thrift store 😢) which has a pretty tight weave. Not completely scratch proof šŸˆā€ā¬› but serviceable. And the colour was right. I just walked in and there it was. No piping or other details as I know they don’t last and also, I was in a time crunch. I hope everyone is enjoying your summer ( or winter) and I guess I’ll see you on the other side šŸŒž #sewover50july #isewmyownclothes #ontariosews #summersewing #sewgreen by @solizziesews

It’s the 3rd Thursday in May- International Vyshyvanka Day! I’m keeping the tradition of wearing one of my Ukrainian embroidered folk blouses. This one I made in 2021 from an already embroidered vintage tablecloth using the #roscoeblouse Slava Ukraini! šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡¦
