Sewing Friends are the Best.
.
It's been said before,  but is worth saying again.
It's always lovely when we see  sewing friends meeting up.
2. It's a year since the glorious weekend that was #EdinburghFrocktails when 80 of us spent time together... many friendships that had built up over the previous years from chatting online became 'irl' friendships too, and many new ones were formed.
.
3. If you don't have a Frocktails venue that is easily accessible time and distance wise for you,  you could always start one, as @janineerm did with #CalgaryFrocktails. And there are other ways of connecting in real life.
@sueleighatkins recently organised a first meet up in a local sewing shop.
@daisysewcrazy and schoolfriends organise a weekend sewing retreat now and again....  (you can book a holiday property and sew on the dining room table or stay at each other's homes if there is room for a gathering)
@stitchesbyrobyn and friends got together for Project Sew   recently whilst @thatlenaking and  @julietutzor organised an Ankara Appreciation picnic.
.
4. @susanyoungsewing is a sewcial whiz... meeting up with friends for exhibitions, fabric shopping, sewcials and even actual sewing.
.
5 - 8. And then there are one-to-one meet ups. Often holidays and travelling are involved...... either the traveller approaches someone who they know lives near their destination, or at the mention of forthcoming holidays in their area a local gets in touch and says 'hi, want to meet up?'.
Gabriele, amongst others,  calls @SewOver50 the Sewing Dating Agency.  Have you had a hit?
.
Remember,  if you wish to try and connect with someone who lives close to you then there are  hashtags you can use (although we know hashtags are no longer the magic they once where ) e.g. I would use #EdinburghSews,  #SewEdinburgh,  #ScotlandSews , ##SewScottish or similar combinations. Why not try searching and using your local hashtag?
.
Tomorrow,  a year to the day since #EdinburghFrocktails,  I will be travelling through to Glasgow for @ScottishFrocktails . Keep an eye on our stories to hear about other Frocktail events.

What are you waiting for?

It feels time for some linen love.
.
In our recent @uncutpodcast_ Sandy and I were asked which fabric is our favourite to sew with...and we both said linen without hesitation. It is indeed a great fabric to sew with, and to wear... through all seasons, although we tend to think of it and use it as a summer fabric. The fantastic array of colours and shades available, and the fact that it is one of the most sustainable fabrics, adds to its appeal.

1.@juudvhooijdonk in her #talalmostlongtrousers and #talcufftop in a very soft lightweight linen (sizing up to 92cm waist and 157cm bust respectively). @theassemblylineshop have great #So50Visible credentials and are very communicative and supportive of our community ....#so50thanks.
2. @tremayne396 remembers exactly where she obtained these two linens from. She was involved in #swapitsewit and received the printed linen as part of that. The lilac linen for the top was purchased on a fabulous vacation in Tuscany...she remembers the exact town.
3. @solizziesews used luscious linen from @fabricsstorecom . She wanted this top to be a soft sage green so tried dyeing with spinach. It wasn't the best colour so she is waiting until she can get to the shops for some Rit.
4. @joonmade in #axisdress (size up to 124cm hip) with linen from @fabricstorecom. It's helping get through Mercury retrograde
5. @justine.mcgrath found putting on two linen pieces after a rubbish day really helped. It's the @merchantandmills #trapezedress & #saltmarshskirt.
6. @sewmarymac loves linen in the summer. She is wearing the Melody Dolman @lovenotions in a floral linen from @milymaefabrics .
7. @dragonflysouldesigns paired her #landershorts from curtain making excess with apple green linen top, a TNT #NL6483. Perfect for summery days.
8.@ewefibers used crinkle striped linen for her culottes with solid enzyme washed linen for the top.
9. @sewknitsingplay 's soft linen in Mist was used for the #cielotop
 @closetcorepatterns (up to size 30).
10. @sewyogi made this skirt during the #sewingweekender from less than a meter of @merchantandmills linen. It involved clever piecing of the frill and waistband. A miracle.

What drives you to choose a particular fabric? 🤔
Elizabeth @solizziesews tracked down some gorgeous floral material and vintage pattern which was a close match to a fabric and style her mother wore.
Do you have memories of your mothers, grandmothers, aunts and great aunts wearing fabulous dresses and does it inspire you to recreate them like Elizabeth has done?
Isn’t this all things fabulous! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 .

Repost @solizziesews with @repostsaveapp · · · I attended a Labour Day cottage wedding and wore my Retro Butterick ‘60 dress. ( B5748) My mom used to have a dress like this with red roses on it that I loved and I tried in vain to find a similar rose patterned fabric. This was the closest one I could find. I got the dress design right though. I love me a twirly skirt. #so50vintage #sewover50 #sewover50dresses #vintagefashion #imakemyownclothes #vintagedresses #sewcialists #happysew #butterickpatterns
